Check out this air cleaner I'm restoring
« on: July 28, 2010 - 10:55:49 PM »
A friend gave me this Hemi air cleaner. It was all scratched up.

For the last month and a half, I work on it sanding it every once in a while. Ever finer grits of sandpaper. This is after 1500. It's aluminum aftermarket no longer being made.

Looks like you have spent a few moments with her  :roflsmiley:  Seriously Mike, do you plan to have it chrome platted? Unless it is near perfect when you finish with it I'd consider powder coating it, they have a lot of colors to choose from anymore, in fact I think there is even a "chrome" shade.   :2thumbs:

I have a lot of hours wet sanding it. She wants it outta here. Cuz I've been doing it in the kitchen sink. So I may end up selling it.
Everytime I wet sand it, it makes black water on the kitchen sink. (Ms. TC =  :swear:

What's unique about it is not only is it aluminum, but the base is for a 4 barrel Hemi. I've never seen one of these like this before. It has a sticker underneath saying Alternative Hemi air cleaner with a ph. no. I looked them up on the web and couldn't find them. I have a hunch Chrysler shut them down with a cease and disist on making them. That's just a guess though.

Here's the air cleaner base. And the sticker. Anyone ever seen or dealt with this place?

I'm not gonna put that one on. It's a 69 on back unit. I already have the correct steel 70-71 shaker base and top. Might mount this one on the garage wall.

For now it's just a side project I work on and off. I need to go buy aluminum stick and polish it. Doing that soon.

Try some Flitz or Mothers Billet polish on it. And use a micro fiber polishing cloth and it will realy shine.
