whats a good tranny for a 70?

hey guys, i want to put in a manual in my 70 chally, i dont care if its new or old, i was planning on putting in a stroker kit, still undecided. if a 572 can work on a stock block then i would definatley get a 572, whichever is the largest that will work on a stock block is which i will get. so the tranny will need to be able to support the output of whatever kit i get.

Well I would use an 833 or the new 833 from passon performance & possibly use the Hemi OD he is building
 I am not a fan of the Tremec conversion , it will not shift above 6000 rpm & is not particularly strong , you could use the Viper T56 but major floor reconstruction is nessisary to fit it

With the t56 its not only floor reconstruction, its torsion bar crossmember reconstruction as well. But if you do go the 6 speed route make sure its a Viper spec T56 or a new Viper TR6060, as they have stronger internals.

Mcleod is also developing a 5 speed manual transmission for Mopars.

wow, i didnt know that about tremecs, i looked into them alot since i use one in my mustang and i know there supposed to be good. otherwise i prob would have gotten the t56 or the t6060. i looked into the 833's, are they all manual? and are they all 4 speeds? well if i do the 543 stroker kit, will the 833 be able to support it?

heres some pics of my floor pans, i have a couple questions, currentley I HAVE A 727 AUTO INSTALLED. so my questions are, what is that hole in the transmission tunnel? it looks to far foreward to be a shifter hole, but since i have no interior i cannot tell. and im guessing those metal brackets are for the old center console, can i have a body shop just cut that off?

All 833 are 4 spds , some use 3rd gear for the OD so you shift 1-2-4-3 internally , but by reversing the lever on the outside of the trans you still use the normal 4 spd shift pattern , the 833 is still one of the strongest trannies ever & will take a ton of power .
 Personally I would stay closer to 512 CI & keep some rod ratio & keep the rings away from the piston pins for a street engine build , you will still have lots of power .
 The hole in your floor is for the shift rod that drops down below the floor & the brackets are for the original console , the brakcts will have to be removed to mount almost any manual trans in your car .
