dreaming of colors

so I watched this video

so the question that struck me..header panels - I kind of liked carrying the hood color to the header panel - wonder how that would look with B5 blue and white stripes...

Speaking of which - what is the normal paint process - paint the header panel prior to painting the body, or at the same time?

Sounds pretty cool to me.  I like that challey.  Doing it in Blue would work great.  The white stripe would pop nicely.  IMHO

Following what the Pro that did burdar's '73 I'd say he painted the header panel 1st & then painted it again with the body.

It was just being mocked up in the first pic.  It hadn't been stripped of the origonal paint yet.  The header panel didn't need to be sprayed with poliester primer so it was masked off. 

The factory painted everything together except for the front valence and side louvers.  The front valence was installed after the blackout process was done and the louvers after the stripes went on.  You can do it any way you want.  If you paint it all together, you don't have to worry about retouching any of the bolt heads later on.

I've never liked the look of the 72-74 cars when the front ends were painted anything other than body color.  The same goes for painting the hood scoops black.  The factory painted them body color and that's how they look the best.

Blue with white stripes is a great looking combo.

Are you saying that's the way you like them the best or that's the way they came from the factory?

No 72-74's came all black on the back.  Most were argent with black around the tail light lenses.  Only the 72 Rallye's had black tail panels.  Even then, they had argent around the lenses.

The "all black" tails look pretty good.  I usually don't care for body colored tail panels but that white one really does work well.

I prefer the front and back ends a contrasting colour - ie black, argent, gunmetal, but when it comes right down to it, it's difficult, if not impossible, to make a Challenger look bad.
