« on: August 05, 2010 - 09:06:26 AM »
Anyone got any tips on how to correctly adjust the gear shift on a 904, will this go in conjuction with the kick down, cant do one without the other?  I cant get 1st gear manually, all else ok .

Check for "slop" in the shifter linkage (worn plastic bushings, worn steel, loose bolts etc) If that is all good, you may need to cut a section out of the shifter lever coming off the trans to make it shorter and have a quicker "ratio"

There is an adjustment on the rod that connects at the pivot to the lever in the tranny but it's all relative, if you make 1st work you may not be able to go into park, give it a try but I imagine Terry has been there many times & worn parts will be the culprit.

Checked the linkages, not to bad, some new split pins. Simple adjustment at the pivot, selected first gear tightened the adjuster there, bingo! perfect.. :2thumbs:

My column shift linkage is all sloppy and worn out.  Also my kickdown does not work.   Does anyone sell a kit with all the hardware to go in and do the tighten up on all the connections?

Also, I used to put shift kits in my cars to firm up the shifting.  I would like to do this to my 904 when I change the fluid and filter.  What do you guys recommend?  I think I used to use the B&M kit.

You need the kick down working correctly or it will burn up the trans! Don't drive it till you get it straightened out.
