Broken slap stick spring
« on: August 06, 2010 - 08:07:52 PM »
Anyone know if these are being reproduced?  Mine broke so when I go 1-2-D, neutral isn't locked out.

Not so funny story...I dropped the set screw to the shifter knob and it fell under the carpeting.  I think I'll have to pull my seats out so I can roll up the carpet to get to it.  I'm such an idiot.   :banghead:

I had to replace that same spring years ago & was able to scrounge one close enough.
If you have an Ace Hardware in your area check & see if they have one the right weight, even if it's to long you can cut it down.

I just checked my leftover parts... I have a 70 shifter but the spring is missing I have the set screw for the shifter knob. I can mail it to you if you want it? Save ya ripping out the carpet?

I'd really appreciate that.  Will you be at he NATs on Saturday?  I could pick it up then.

I found a spring at ace hardware but they didn't have the set screw. None of the screws could thread all the way through the knob

My new spring in action.  Thought this video might benefit future generations.  It's a #75 spring from Ace Hardware.  Thanks for the help, all.  Now all I need is the set screw and everything will be copacetic.

Great Video!

What are the threads on the screw?

Tom

I got a big tub of allen head set screw from harbor freight a while back, has a bunch of different sizes.

What are the threads on the screw?

I'll measure it before I put it in.  Threads are measured in "threads per inch", yes?

Thanks for the video, maybe now I can figure out why mine won't "ratchet" for 2nd to drive.  Maybe the little spring is too weak?  :clueless:
