Fun in the tunnel
« on: August 08, 2010 - 12:12:26 AM »
Not really a kill story, maybe I shoulda named this post ol' boys racin'

Let me set the stage first...

We were a the local saturday nite cruise. And coming back home, which is a good 5 miles for us. Coming down the road at about the same time is a 71 440 RR and a 69 Kumarrow. We are all driving in a non-Competitive manner and with a 100 yards of each other. Dont know the guy in the bowtie but my wife has talked with his. Dont know the name of the guy in the RR but have talked with him a few times.

The "tunnel" is a tunnel under Mitchell International Airport. You can see the tunnel in this vid I made last year.

Anyway the tunnel is a great place to let things rip, it just sounds soooo cool there. Pipes just blastin and all!

As we approach the tunnel all of a sudden everyone has caught up to me. NIKKI's in the middle the Kumarrow's on the left the RR on the right. We're all doin about 35-40. I already know where this is gonna go. As we enter I give NIKKI a mouthful  :burnout:  I see everyones else did the same. I can tell right away these guys are set more for the street, (NIKKI's set for the HWY!) the RR is a half car up on me, the Kumarrow about a fender. By mid tunnel NIKKI's got her R's up and startin' to breathe! She blasts by the bowtie, by 3/4 tunnel shes up to the RR, by the end she's ahead by a half a car maybe a bit more.  :cooldancing:

We all pull up to the stop light grinnin' givin' each other the thumbs up. Most fun I had all day!!!!  Ol' farts racin'

For several years while going to the Mopar Nats, we used to stay out at the Concourse which is one of the Hotels at the Columbus airport. There was a set of tunnels you had to go through that ran under one of the runways and done basically the same thing every time we went through them. Glass packs on the RR really make anyone following you come out of their skin if they don't know what's getting ready to happen. :naughty:

Used to do that all the time with the bikes in tunnels, loved the sound of the pipes echoing off the walls! It would be a blast with the Challenger!!  :burnout:
