How were your origonals installed?  I assume the new tags were copied off your origonals.

Side by side.
Vin on bottom of right tag.
End on the top left tag.

Are these for your 70? If so, which plant is it from? LA did it differently than Hamtramck.

Is it a good service or a disservice to collectors?

With "Humped" Fender Tags, I'm sure dishonest individuals are putting on "extra options" to make their car "more desireable", and probably humping the VIN too.

Are there stats on how many people get caught each year for fraud?

I don't believe that those guys will let you hump the vin.  It is not Fraud to put on a fender tag.  Just a vin tag.

Cuda Hunter,
I think what 1970 Challenger RT is saying is that there are Companies out there that are making up fake fender tags with extra options on there. If you remember when we bought our 71 340 project Cuda it had a fake fender tag on it with all the good options on the tag. We paid a ton of money thinking it was a more valuable car then it was. When we sold it we sold it without the tag. We still have the tag in our safe and we turned the guy we bought the car from into his local Sheriff's office. We are still waiting to hear back from the Sheriff. It is illegal to put a fake tag on a car.  It is also illegal to mess with the VIN tag. Our Cuda only had a fake fender tag everything else was legit.  We do not know who made the tag but someone did and it looks correct. I just wish we had been able to show Barry the tag before we bought the car but we could not show him until after. At least we found out before we restored the car.

To clarify that a little, fake trim / fender tags are illegal in two states (so far) Michigan & Oklahoma.

Selling a car with a fake tag & representing it as real to the buyer is fraud.

I really hate having to tell folks that the car they just bought has a fake tag, it happens all too often. People have been making them for close to 30 years now. Most sellers try to pass them off as the real thing.  :walkaway:
