1972 Charger SE 400 - customer car
« on: August 14, 2010 - 09:01:31 AM »
As some of you may or may not know, I recently joined the ranks of the unemployed.  Instead of sucking lemons and being all bitter, I decided to make lemonade and start pursuing my "hobby" as a way to make ends meet.

The car you see here is a numbers matching 1972 Charger Special Edition with a 400 4-barrel.  It belongs to a customer from Ohio that entrusted me with it several months ago.  Originally the plan was for me to work part-time on it and give it a basic paint job.  Now, it looks as if I will be doing a lot more than just a paint job on it as the owner wants me to do the interior as well.

Car is currently about 1/2 wet sanded and buffed.  Going to work on my Challenger this weekend!

Yup - being broke is a wonderful motivator!  I can't stand living week to week.  I figure if I can work 60-70 hours a week until we move back to FL, I'll finally be able to get ahead.

Oh well - back to work...

Took some time off from this car while I was waiting on parts from Legendary.  Since last update, the only add'l thing I have done to it is put on a set of stripes.  Today's project is to install the new vinyl top.  After that, I need to install a new dash cap, headliner, and carpet.

Will post pics tonight from home

Tried to update this a few times but something keeps happening.  At any rate - pretty much finished with it now.  Here are some pics

In case you are wondering - and I have had several people ask - the total labor on this project was less than $3500 for everything that I did. I would have had it done almost 2 months ago had I not been waiting for the vinyl top and headliner...

Looking good Gary! Do you have your own shop down there? Wish you were up here in Canada, my brother has a couple cars he could put you right to work on.   :2thumbs:

Gary, the guy who helped me with my car is basically making a living finishing people's project cars in Central IL.  Put out the word...there are so many people with the "I'll get to it some day" mentality about their cars.

If you showed off the before and after pics of this Charger that was ~$3500, I think you'd have people beating a path to your door (and a better job than the one that left you).

That is a good idea.  When I get down to Florida I'll start advertising like that

Jim,

Thaks.  The stripe is actually not custom though - it is what came on 71 Charger R/T's minus the hood and door graphics :)
