My 1970 Challenger R/T - Now a Customer Car
« on: August 14, 2010 - 09:27:17 AM »
Here we go.  This thread will follow the build of my personal 1970 Challenger R/T.  It has the numbers matching 383 but the tranny does not match.  I bought this car back in 2005 before moving to TX was even a thought.  5 years later, I still have the car and have accumulated most of the parts to fix it up.

It was originally an FK5 Burnt Orange Metallic car with white vinyl top and burnt orange interior.  Since it does not have the fender tag or build sheet, I had originally decided to convert the top & interior to black for ease of cleaning and parts availability and paint the car Burnt Orange.  Since my life situation has changed, I have decided to go ahead and change the color to FE5 Rallye Red for resale purposes.  Unfortunately, I lost a bunch of pics I took of the car when I first got it due to a computer crash but I will post those that I have.

There's a bunch more pics I do have but I will need to re-size them in order to post.  I've got to get busy at the shop, so More to Come later tonight

Saturday I installed new torsion bars and cut out the rust that was in the driver side lower qtr.  Gonna bust some tail on it today.  Should be able to make noticeable progress.

Yesterday, I pulled all of the parts out of the interior.  Swapped out the bad hood hinge.  Stripped the hood down to bare metal due to some surface rust.  Sprayed 2 coats of Urethane Primer on the whole car (except area that still needs rust repair).  Ordered the needed patch panel.  Then started to clean up the steering column and install new turn signal and ignition switches.

Today, I have a few stripe kit orders to get out and then I plan on pulling the fenders and doors in order to shoot the jambs tomorrow. At the same time, I am going to repair the worn out lower door hinge on the driver side.

Did some block sanding on the hood & fenders. Then pulled the hood, fenders and doors.  Replaced the door hinges with new ones since they were pretty worn out. Then  sanded and painted the engine compartment and inner fenders & frame rails.

Yesterday, I cleaned and undercoated the inside of the fenders.  Also undercoated the inner fenders. Then, painted the door jambs and inside of the doors plus the underside of the hood. Today, I will be concentrating on my customer's 72 Charger.  Going to finish wet sanding & buffing it and possibly start the exterior re-assembly

I think it is just the way Gary's camera is picking up the color.  It looks dark orange on my monitor also.  When he gets the Challenger done and outside the color will look red.
