If you can afford half of a new trans, you can afford a proper rebuild on yours. Crazy to sell...what's to say the next car won't have a nagging issue, too?

Hang on there and just walk away for a little while!, time is the healer of pain and anguish. I almost gave up for alot less and walked away for a while... time will heal you will find love in the car again when you have had time to cool the frustration.

Easy there Robert...

Here's some more reading, hopefully it's just a bushing.?.?

Tom

Oil Recommended:   GM Synchromesh, GM part number 12345349 (3 quarts).  Optional fluids are Dexron II E and Mercon Synthetic.

Clutch:  In order to maintain correct clutch adjustments, an adjustable clutch cable/quadrant kit is recommended.  This will prevent hard shifting, gear clash, and premature wear of the synchronizer rings.

Transmission gear rattle may be heard under heavy loads at low speed, during cancellation, in neutral, and sometimes under wide open throttle.

Mis-calibration of the clutch-driven plate or the crankshaft balancer may be the cause.  Usually, no cost-effective correction is available.

Shift Lever:   Backward installation will give you an awkward, long reach.

If the upper shift lever is installed without the rubber isolator or with a modified shifter lever, the transmission will sound very noisy.

Use of any aftermarket shifter may result in gear noise or gear failure.

There is tons of additional information at http://www.5speedTransmissions.com.

No SD... I wouldn't do that...    Thanx Tom.   So somebody walk me through this... First of all...  Rubber isolator? WTF is that ?   Can I trust the factory balance?  Do I take it to this trans. Shop and hand it over? Because I can't measure any of this stuff properly. Rebuild it?    I want to walk away from the whole thing. And I can't just sit here either.  Not sure what it might cost. But I'm prepared to keep trying somehow...

Now... Um ya.  Hey...  Whoever you people are out there... I can't find the words to say thank you enough. Your patience and help are priceless to me. And I'm sorry to get so frustrated. There are so many good people here.  With all sincerity...    Thanx you guys.    Thanx Cc.c.     What do I do now!?    S/D... What about your flywheel?

I think they are referring to the rear trans mount but ???  Have you taken the shifter out of the trans?  Not sure if there are bushings in there or an adjustable linkage etc?

Robert (sorry if that's not your name, but thought it was as it's in your sig line) ... quick question. When driving, are the vibrations limited to the gear stick?

What I mean is ... does it feel like the entire transmission is shaking and you can feel it in your set? or is it just coming up through the gear stick?

Reason I ask is, I've been doing some reading over on Moparts looking for info on the various overdrive transmissions available for when I change mine (TKO vs Passon etc) and came across this little nugget of info:

Quote
The shifter sucked and buzzed, subsequently fixed by having to replace the shifter mechanism.

On some applications, many years ago, the first generation shifter tower would exhibit a "buzzsaw" vibration at certain speeds/ RPM's.....The issue has been eliminated with the Keisler 3rd generation shift tower.

Maybe you should step back and take a different route, rather than replacing random parts in hope. Do you know where the transmission was initially purchased new from? Tremec , Keisler or maybe even Hurst Drivelines (formerly Classic Motorsports Group).

Get the serial number off the trans. Try and find out where it originally came from and speak to that company about the problem. With the serial or batch number, they should be able to tell you what generation build it was, who sold it - and any problems that may have happened with others from the same batch. It's old, and you purchased it used - so there's probably not a lot of chance they'll cover replacement parts etc - but it may just be the key and at the very least help you eliminate some theories and point you in the right direction.

Good luck!

Edit: Just realised the quote/issue I posted from Moparts was the same kind of info Tom had linked you to on the Camaro forum. Spent so much time reading on Moparts I cam straight here without reading Tom's posts first. Still, confirms it was a widespread problem. Could just be the ticket!

Sounds like the forum is directing you in the right direction and that it may not be as bad as you thought. You have a bad ass car and I would hate to see you let it go!!

Keisler is still selling the upgrades to the TKO according to Gene, who now works for American Powertrain.  Have you tried to call them?

I was talking to a guy that put a Tremec 5 speed into a Malibu . The original shifter"blew up" he said? So he installed an aftermarket and his buzzes too? Just thought I'd pass that along for what it's worth? :dunno:
