I feel sick... :walkaway:
Wow, the whole reason for using the 360 and flywheel was because it was a factory balance.  You start mixing stuff around and you're  back to where you started.

I feel bad for you. So bad that I will sell you my factory 360 flywheel for $50 plus the shipping. You game? Send me your address and I'll get a post office price.  Think about it and let me know.

I really appreciate the offer.  Will it fit under my bellhousing?   Ya,I hear you on mixing the flywheels... That's why I asked...   So, Sure 50 bucks is nothin'.   But I'm going to make some calls. Get an estimate to do the 340. I'd love a new bottom end,Not sure I want to trust that crank. Would the balancer tell me if it was still good or not?   Atleast a .509 cam, balance,Rebuild.   1500.00$-2k. I can scrape that up pretty quick...   Taking it somewhere else for assembly will cost more,But I can't trust the old man who did it before. He stubbornly made me re-use the old cam. .474 measured. He did a great job otherwise...  And only charged me 500.  But I'm pissed at him.

Let me measure my 340 flywheel. See if that 360 one of yours will fit. I'll send you a pm later today. Hey thanx Shelbydog!!!

This 360 is/was purely temporary. I was just trying to determine the vibe,And give myself a little time. The 340 will go back in asap. A new cam/lifters,Gaskets,Flywheel,balance/sonic...   Plus assembly; is about all I can reasonably afford right now. I'd like to try a victor manifold and a 750 cfm,Port/polish the heads. Gear drive maybe. Just for fun.  Er a six barrel. Go to 500hp.    Ok back to reality...

Hope that flywheel fits my bell.  Getting some good work lined up finally! And bro has joined the cause. So things could happen. Any thoughts on a cam choice? .030 over now.I don't think they are forged pistons. Eddy heads,Msd billet ign. TTI headers,Rpm intake.  500hp would take a stroker 416 and a big cam...     (insert evil sinister grin)  I see this all as an opportunity...

I need a 13 1/4" 360 flywheel. This one is 14 1/4". I assume that's because it was out of a truck.(?).

Is the FLYWHEEL too big, or is the CLUTCH too big?  I seem to remember a few different size clutches including standard and "scalloped".  I remember I needed a "scalloped" clutch to fit my 340 4 speed.
Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

The flywheel off the 360 is too big. (13")    I need a 12" flywheel. It hits the bell,And my PP doesn't fit. There's a guy I know who has a ton of old parts. He might have one.   Would save shipping. What size is yours shelbydog?   I really wanted to use the one that came with it. But that won't work. Not getting a different bell...    This is a TKO 5 speed. That's why I thought of just getting my butchered old flywheel matched to the 360 and trying  I did learn a neat trick to get the pilot bearing out... small wet pieces of paper and tap it in with a socket. Keep adding paper until it pops out. That was cool.   Sure hope I can use this 360. It sure would buy me some time with the 340. But I'm on it!!    Any thoughts on a cam?

125 bucks to balance my old one to the 360 one.   Any thoughts?

Well... I decided to try it. Dropped both flywheels off at a machine shop that's been referred to me a few times. We talked for awhile. His balancer stopped in while I was there,Picked up my stuff. Should be done by Friday.  He quoted me around 4500.00 for the long block. No scat stuff. Eagle... new stroker, new cam(tbd),bearings,gaskets,ect... No head work. gasket matched.
line bored, balanced, sonic tested,Ect...    Somethin to think about. And exactly what I expected.    His dad circle track races. There's 3 360's sitting there. So he knows some tricks.  Guess I'll keep going on swapping stuff over. *deep sigh*   I'm learning...Ever so slowly. R/T

Thanks... But at this point I highly doubt it will work. Just messed up the F/P gasket,Tried to tap the W/P to plug off the heater nipple and cracked it. So there goes another 75 bucks.Plus a speacial tap to do it right...20.00$ I have intake gaskets,But I'll screw that up for sure if I keep going. This just isn't my day. Gotta' order a pump and try again.  Need to step away for a little breather...    This is driving me insane.   I need therapy.

I guess my earlier reply got lost. I replied to get a 318 steel crank for your 340.  And you probably had the 143 toothed flywheel.

Looks like you'll get it all sorted out this time.  The flywheel can be matched to the truck flywheel but lots of metal has to be taken off of the other one to make it match.  Flywheels for 360s had 3 big drilled holes in the back.  The most expensive part was getting the big drill bit.

I told the builder today about that. He smiled. Told me about his 360's running 318 cranks with spacers. Weird.  Do you think I can save the 340 by using a 318 crank? Then what balancer? Flywheel? What about the balance?     Hmm...

Yeah,I saw those large dia. Holes on the back of the 360 fly.
Sounds to me like I still have a shot at this swap then if he can get the balance right from a 13-12" flys...

340s  and 318s used the same crank and oil pans. If you run a 318 "steel" crank, you would run the 318 balancer and a neutral balanced flywheel, then have it all balanced again anyway.  I'm just saying to get away from the cast crank for your 340.

Good Luck
