Been doing a lot of research...   quite a few problems with these transmissions. had I known... I would NEVER have bought this unit.  Pages and pages of people struggling with the same issues.   Not many fixes. So,I'm not going to put another penny into it.    4300 bucks for a passon... then that's what it will be...   

RUN... don't walk away from a tko.    with all these problems, I'm surprised there isn't a lawsuit somewhere...  There should be!   2,000 $+  wasted and countless hrs. wrenching.   I even replaced the engine!!! WTF!?    Like a bad dream.

ya' !   best therapy so far has been givin' her the go juice...      :bigsmile:    I've been pounding on it.  :horse:      the 340 has to be gone through, And I'm looking for 500 h.p. er nothin'.

How did you try them? I've read a few places that you have to phone them. When they're as swamped as they are, you won't get through vial email.


You've lasted this long mate. Don't give up when you could be so close. Give the shift tower switch a try before you ditch it. It'll drive you nuts if you find the next guys fixes it that simply.

I've called them 1/2 dozen times...  Don't think I'm gonna try anymore. They are a joke. And I'm probably on their "black list".   Very easy to tell too, As soon as you say you have a problem, They don't want anything to do with you.   A new shifter tower might make it worse from what I've read.    I can't even really sell it! Garbage IMO...     
I have had some real fun trying to blow her up.  And having a completely expendable drivetrain is relaxing in a way. Mostly because I don't really care anymore.  Must be time for a trip to high plains raceway... Hehe

well...No...Not really.   I've had to start "rigging" it with rubber bumpers to try and quiet it up.

well... hopefully my center section is done. I had my mechanic who re-did it check it over while I'm replacing the rear axles...  Notice the two on the left. They are the old ones. And quite different from each other.   And a new one from mancini.     yeah, It's been a long time with this vibe thing. I've never given up.   Before I tear the car apart for paint  I'd like to get it smooth.   And I wanna strip her SO bad!!      If it's smooth... I'l kiss the ground.   And get my dust mask out... set my wrenches to loosey...

Also:   Anyone know where this rubber spacer goes with a TKO-5 speed install?  Looks like it goes in the tailshaft.  Can't find it in the instructions.

Isn't that just the shipping plug that keeps fluid from running out when the drive shaft is not in?

Last gearbox I had that made similar noises was the synchroniser hub spline a little loose on the mainshafts and I replaced the bearing. Tight as a mouses ear after that and no more noise. where did that TKO come from - Kiesler or a Mustang?

New rear axles did nothing...    I went through the entire rear end.  Everything. Center section and all. There's play at the tail shaft.  Going to take it back into the trans. shop. I had them check it out with the driveshaft. And put in a new seal.  Ill tell em about the bearing.  :walkaway:   I can't take it anymore...   R/T

I hear ya! You do all that work and it's not fun to drive because of the vibration.

I've been through the same steps. The latest is I ordered a new flywheel, pilot bearing (not bushing this time) and clutch fork/pivot. I'm hoping the input shaft was vibrating either due to an out of balance or out of true flywheel or some issue with the pilot bearing. Teardown about to start, will let you know the results.

My theory on the input shaft came when I realized that if I got the car up to speed and the vibration was strong, and I pushed in the clutch I could make the vibration stop by revving it in neutral and then putting it back in gear. This gave me the impression that the input shaft could "walk" and when I pushed in the clutch it found its own state of balance. Did you try that?

A real good suggestion Mudder! I did center the bellhousing with offset dowels at one step along the way - no difference. I forgot to mention that I'm going to check for flywheel endplay before I remove it. A friend looked at the harmonic balancer and thought he saw a little vibration there.

Sorry if it seems that I made this thread about my problems!  :villagers:

NBD sadil340.  best of luck to you with it.  Vibes suck. 

 I jacked her up and got ready to pull the trans. for the upteenth time. Rolled under there and couldn't do it. Might be best for me to drive it down to a tranny shop and let someone else look at it. Got to be the 5 speed.   That way it's in the car,Not real keen on someone else driving it. At all.  But then they can really see what's going on for themselves.  Check for runout and such for themselves.   The play at the tailshaft is very slight. Doesn't look like the u-joint to me, But I'm reefn' on it pretty hard.     Been over this car so much found a ball joint goin. loose wheel bearing.  Another busted sway bar mount.  Time for billet ones.     On the edge of my seat with my grinder. Waiting to go to town strippn this thing. UhG.   Tear it apart with a vengeance.  :horse:   R/T
