COMP XE285HL w/1.6 rockers
« on: August 17, 2010 - 11:11:15 AM »
Any body try this setup in a 440, I have a set of roller rockers that are still in good shape but they are 1.6's. This put's my gross lift at about .590 inches w/this cam. I have heard of similiar setups having float problems at 5600 rpm, but could not verify the lifters they used (ie quality of!). I was thinking of using rhodes v max's ( I have used them before and they are incredible) to soften the ramps and get some extra bottom end, but that still leaves me questioning the gross lift and aggresive ramps on the high end. I was thinkin i would bite the bullit and go some 1.5s to be on the safe side. Also if anyone has used 1.6 w/285HL what springs lifters did you use, and how did it work out. :clueless:

Well for anyone who was wondering about this i finally got ahold of comp, they basically told me that most hydraulic lifters even their " top notch " pieces can only handle about 320-340 psi spring pressure at max before the plunger will bottom out in the lifter. When you use the 1.6s on this cam the spring pressure required to control that amount of lift readily exceeds that number. Then at high rpm when your valve contol is critical the lifters fail and horsepower drops.  The rhodes lifters may work according to their tech but the spring pressure could just cause the lifter to bleed down and soften the camshafts lift all the time. My E heads are mildly ported and flow best at .6 lift.....guess I ll have to dust off my solid roller lifters and pony up the cash for a roller cam.
