I'm leaning towards the Mancini kit it's cheaper and  better parts me thinks. That's the kit you have I think

Are you sure that a 4.25" stroke is the max that you can run before having issues withe the oil pick up?  I think that you can run up to 4.375" stroke and still clear.

From most places I have found, they say a 4.25" is the max. Although I suppose you could run a 4.375" assuming that you did some custom work to the oil pan and internal oil pickup to allow for the extra room added. If that were the case then you might be able to maintain an internal pickup, but for me I'd just stick with the 4.25". That after all has been proven.

Yeah I think the 4.25 is the way to go no sense in overstepping a proven stroker kit formula I think thats a 512 stroker right

please forgive me for saying this, dosent anyone have faith in a 440 . really 500-550 horse is very doable with flat tops (wich come .025 in the hole) with the 80cc combustionchamber on the stealths , (works out to 10.46 to1 )  and a good cam no prob!! why for 50 cubes would you build a 496  ? the 440 isnt reliable at high rpm so the rpms have to stay down in the 6000/6200 range for a street / strip build .

stroker 451 / 500 (400 b block)

500/550 hp easy , dont have to run a huge cam -- > you get tons of reliable hp/torque rpm though the roof !!! get lots of street miles / track too.
you can build this with 440 crank and rods (turn down crank journals to fit 400 block) you get a lighter rotating assemblie and waaaaaay more power for the $.
this is only one mans openion so please be gentile!!-->bill

uh, a 440 is reliable.  And any build size mentioned here will achieve the simple goal in question. And as you posted about hi rev 451 ci   it's all good but who needs the extra revs .  TQ is what stroking is all about for the most part.  even sm blk guys try to get bigger and bigger in their stroke.  So just pick n choose about any combo out there today and go for your number.  The levels here are not out of site .  And as far as revs are concerned, you can only go as far as the flow of the heads will permit.  Notice any stroker build you read about is 90 percent of the time running a 500 or 600 lift cam :dunno:  The lighter the weight , the quicker it will rev tho

Funny thats what the original debate I was having was between a stroked 400 or a reg 440 many people told me the 400 will be stronger than the 440 if the 400 is stroked but if both were stroked there would be no comparison. I already had a 440 block that made the choice a much easier one. But thats just what I have been told.

If your gonna stroke it, you might as well go for the monster and do the 440 block...The only reason people seem to love that 400 block is mainly because it is basically the largest bore of any factory BB Mopar and for the weight savings...I call BS on the weight thing, cause I want all the room I can get in my motor with long rods as so my pistons don't have the wrist pins in the ring lands....A 4.250 crank in EITHER block isn't gonna rev. like a SB..There is no need .However, I like fishin' and that 'ol stroker BB will real 'em in like a catfish...Catchup is good on my hamburgers and hotdogs too....

I am with you on the 440 stroker motor. I understand the advantages of the 400, but for most under 650 hp street/strip applications, the 440 stroker wins the day for me. We put a 496" 440 stroker in my buddy's '69 Dart. Nice Voodoo hydraulic cam, out of the box Eddys, intake and a dominator. Runs high tens on pump gas all day long....    :rebel:

Personally I like the 4.25 stroke 512 combo , it removes 7 lbs of rotating mass & maintains a decent rod ratio using the longer 7.1" connecting rod .
Valve lift has virtually nothing to do with overcamming the engine , lift is free , the duration & overlap controls the rpm range of the powerband  & overall drivability of the engine . with a solid cam I stay in the high 240- to mid 250 * range , using a 110 CL , this allows the 512 to make power from 2000 - 5800 with a peak rpm of 6000 , it idles well & makes decent vacuum as well ,, the killer is the Lunati grinds I use have .570-.590 lift using 1.5 rockers & will go over .600 lift with 1.6 rockers .
the last one I tested on a Mustang dyno [stingy #s] made 398 hp & 460 ft lbs peak at the wheels & held 400+ ft lbs from 2200 to 5200 rpm

That was an aluminum case, wow everyone told me they were not durable that is an awesome build I will try to mirror when I get my stroker kit.

Well abusing stuff properly I guess you can break anything but I had an alum case A833 OD in my Duster for 9 years , it pulled the front wheels 2-3' on every pass & distroyed 3 8 3/4 diffs , the trans was fine though
