Personally I like the 4.25 stroke 512 combo , it removes 7 lbs of rotating mass & maintains a decent rod ratio using the longer 7.1" connecting rod .
Valve lift has virtually nothing to do with overcamming the engine , lift is free , the duration & overlap controls the rpm range of the powerband & overall drivability of the engine . with a solid cam I stay in the high 240- to mid 250 * range , using a 110 CL , this allows the 512 to make power from 2000 - 5800 with a peak rpm of 6000 , it idles well & makes decent vacuum as well ,, the killer is the Lunati grinds I use have .570-.590 lift using 1.5 rockers & will go over .600 lift with 1.6 rockers .
the last one I tested on a Mustang dyno [stingy #s] made 398 hp & 460 ft lbs peak at the wheels & held 400+ ft lbs from 2200 to 5200 rpm
