Vintage Air Conditioner Unit Under a Shaker Hood
« on: August 19, 2010 - 03:45:34 PM »
Hey guys,

Does anyone know if the Vintage A/C compressor will fit under a shaker hood?  I'm doing a shaker conversion.  I removed the old A/C because there was no way it was going to fit.  But the vintage unit is much smaller.  Just wondering.  Thanks

The Summit link is just to show you.  Where is the best place to buy the A/C?

Call this place. I know it can be done. Seen a Hemi with a shaker and A/C.

That is the way my research took me when I was considering a shaker hood.  I currently have a flat and rally hood.  After talking to friends I found out that it is very time consuming to remove the shaker to do engine work.  Since I have moved towards a Hemi which requires annual valve adjustments added to having dual carberators I decided to stay with the Rally hood.  Although when your driving around it does look very cool.  I went with the pulley system that has it tucked down on the passenger side, instead of top of the engine.  Which I believe will create some height issues with your hood.

I have a crew currently installing vintage air in my cuda. It has a shaker hood, so I hope everything will fit fine. These guys should know, though. I can let you know if and how it all turns out in about a week or so.

very tight fit with mine, and of course different radiator connections, etc.
the billet msd distributor is tight too.

btw, I can remove the whole shaker assembly in a couple minutes. Its no big deal, unless you like working underneath on a daily basis, then it can become bothersome.

Very clean looking install.  I also want to install that setup someday.  Was it origionally an air car?  How about some shots of the interior setup.

prior owner did a lot of work to it with a 2.5 year build of a non-a/c 318 barracuda. Its the vintage air sanden unit, and I think the firewall was also swapped with an a/c firewall, iirc.
Here in s. florida the car would be undriveable for 6 months out of the year without a/c, and it cools real well.
here's the only decent interior shot I have:

That is a very attractive look.  The interior looks very nice.  Makes me rethink whether I shoul get a shaker for my car.   I'll wait to see how things fit in my car once the engine is in.  Should be interesting though.

Oh, I see you already have an A/C dash.  Mine is a non-A/C.

I love the white background on the gauges, are these original rallye gauges with new faces?

again, done by prior owner during the resto but I have the receipt for the gauge work, and they refinished them with new white faces. Took them over a year to do it! Guess they were backed up. This was about 8 years ago when white faces were in, but the black is making a comeback. :cooldancing:

My restoration team just got the air compressor mounted so that it fits under the shaker baseplate & adapter ring in my Cuda. It was a tight fit. They had to modify the brackets to get it to sit low enough and will need to get a 90-degree fitting for the uppermost hose mounting. Then it will all fit fine -- hopefully. It's not great, but below is a photo of the setup.
