440 casting 4006630-440-8

I found a 440 with the casting 4006630-440-8 so that makes it a 78?  It also has 5T 440 E which would indicate it does not have a forged crank.  The guy only wants $250.  It was supposed to be rebuilt 6 years ago.  Would this be a decent motor to build a stroker motor out of or since its either a truck or motorhome motor would it be a waste of time?

From what I can see it could be a late '75 to '79 block.
As long as it has not been over bored I think it would make a great stroker.

As long as your block is sound, with a stroker kit you will be replacing the lower end.
Make the rest of it breathe (heads,cam,intake,exhaust, you get it) and you will have a great motor.

The - 8 in the casting number means that the mold had been corrected for core shift 8 times.

I have just read a lot of pros and cons about the cast crank blocks.  Some people say they are worthless and some say they are just fine.  blah blah blah nickel content.  I am new to the mopar world and was just looking for some experience mopar people's opinion.  Since I plan on making a stroker motor and replacing well... everything it shouldn't matter as long as it is built right and balanced... correct? 

core shift... that doesn't mean that it is a bad mold.  it just means they corrected the mold before it became a problem right?

I have used later blocks with no issues & have found some with incredably thick cylinder walls

Here's a good article about core shift. After reading it, you can see it really is a good idea to get any used block sonic tested.Especially if it had been bored anytime in its past.

Whoever does it, make sure to ask if they do a basic or a complete. There are also certain sonic testing machines which are preferred. So ask and investigate.
