« on: August 20, 2010 - 08:34:30 AM »
Anyone got a Cuda or Chally painted in a non mopar color?  Doesnt have to be factory, but if its factory that is cool too.

The one in my avatar is non factory. Not sure what color it is exactly, but it is very dark blue. Once body work is done, I'll be going with a mid '90s, ford purple. I prefer it over plum crazy because it has more red than blue in it.

My car was painted a 93 Ford color, but it's faded so much it probably wouldn't come close any more.

I have several opinions on the subject...but at this time I would:

1st Stick with a MOPAR color.
2nd Use a Paint color Year Specific
or at least a Challenger/Cuda color
3rd Why not include all Challengers, new as well.

I kinda hate using competitor colors, but then again ... why not.
You have to ask yourself ... what floats your boat...

I'm using a Subaru Blue and a Ford Charcoal color on mine.....
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

Barry, do you happen to know what those colors are?  I saw a pic of a Challenger a while back that was painted Chevy Rally Green.  It looked good.  Not sure if it came from the factory that color.

Just because it was used on a different brand car/truck doesn't mean Ford, Chevy MADE that color...

There are GM-Ford- Versions of Hemi Orange, Inviolet, Etc...
In fact, I read somewhere where the SAME paint was used, just called a different name/Code.....IMO, painting a car with another Color than what would have been offered as original isn't like dumping a SB Chevy in a Cuda...

My car was lemon twist originally. One of the few original colors I don`t like ( at least not on my own car)  My next option was Sassy, but around the time I had to order my paint, there were several cars in sassy popping up in this small country, so I went to the paintshop and came back home with an old volkswagen color.  Had my doubts about going non mopar ,but I love it   :bigshades:

Special order paint could be ordered in any paint that was commercially available at the time. I do not know what either of those two examples are.

Mine was painted by the 2nd owner back in '82 or '83, base coat no clear. The color looks like a '61 Vette color and I don't like it.
Some day I'll put it back to Amber Sherwood Metallic Green....
