Monteray Historic race trans am crash
« on: August 20, 2010 - 08:50:18 AM »
Wow, this really sucks...

Dodge leading the pack but unfortunatly one fish grenades an engine putting down oil for the second fish to slide around in. The ensuing carnage almost hurts to watch.

This is the survivor car too, isn't it? Hurts to watch.
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

Its hard to say what the driver of the Camaro actually could see, but its hard to believe he never saw the 42 Cuda in the middle of the track!  As far as I could tell he never lifted.  If he had he should have been able to miss the 42 or at the very least not cream it.  Sad, but a risk you take putting it out there side-by-side with other drivers not all of whom are smart....

The caution flag was waving well before the Camaro comes into the frame and crashed into him.

Unfortunate, I don't think he ever saw him till the last second.  He appears to accelerate out of the turn, then "oops"

Anyone know who was driving the Cudas?  Last I knew Craig Jackson owned and drove the 48.  I believe the owner/driver of the 42 is a member here (doesn't post very often).

It looks to me like the camaro driver was trying to stay off the car on the outside of him anothere camaro, and picked the wrong line.  I hope everyone is ok. Cars can be fixed.

IMO, the Camaro driver was bumper driving, following the bumper of the guy in front of him.  All the other drivers managed to slow down and avoid the spun car because they looked where they were going instead of where they already were.  He should have been looking at the corner exit as well as right in front of him.  That's the way most people drive on the freeway. It's one of the two leading causes of accidents (the other being following too close.)  There was no excuse, especially in vintage racing, where it's explicit that extra care be taken while racing not to touch.
