what MPG do you get?
« on: August 23, 2010 - 09:45:21 PM »
Last weekend I did just over a 200 plus mile trip in the Challenger.( Mopar car show) My fuel gauge is on the Fritz so I stopped about every 2 hours to fill up so I didn't run out. This was my first long trip with the car and I was pleasantly surprised! Every time I stopped it took way less to fill it than I figured! I overfilled it a few times as I didn't believe it was full when the pump clicked off! :grinno: Most of the time I was 60 MPH at about 3000RPM'S on the tach.
When I got home and figured out the mileage I was shocked to see it got almost 14 MPG! :faint: I figured that was pretty good for a 440?
I'm running a mild 440/727 with 3:55 rear gears, 850CFM carb

Just curious what others get and with what combo?

I have seen #S much higher than that , occaisionally over 20 MPG with a 440 & 3.23 gears
we did a 512 stroker with the 833 OD & averaged 17.7 mpg with a 950 carb

I'm right there with you Oldschool. When I drove to Carlisle, I got a steady 10 MPG on the highway with 3:91 gears and 543 cubes, naturally aspirated, 1,000 cfm Pro-systems carb. I imagine under heavy throttle, I could watch the gas gage lower itself and the MPG's would be in the negative!! :smilielol: :roflsmiley: :smilielol:

Mild 451, 833OD, 3.55 gears, 27" tall tire

When I went down to the Nats I was getting around 15 on the highway doing mostly 75 mph (my dad was in front of me and he has a lead foot). I would imagine somewhere between 18-20 mpg at 60-65 mph.

440 6 bbl here on 93 octane and I get about 6mpg, and not much better than that on the highway.
I also run well over 3000 rpm at 70 mph...cant hear yourself think.
Its running very rich so that prob  has something to do with it, but Ive heard similar numbers from other 6bbl guys.

I bnet that could be tuned to run far better , more timing , possibly a lower Power valve depending on vacuum etc

Brad,

You cheated using Canadian gallons.   :poopoke:

Still, that isn't bad at all with 3:55's. Is your engine basically stock, or has it been hopped up some?
