A question of timing...
« on: August 28, 2010 - 09:52:31 AM »
Now that I have Dexter the engine analyser I can see what my timing is doing.. Does this sound about right?
360 engine stock with 2 1/2" exhaust on  [aussie] 91 octane no vac advance. Road test only, the slightest of ping at WOT after a few seconds.

RPM                  Timing                   Timing variation                   Vacuum
800                   14                                                                17.72
1463                  23.5                     .7                                      19.85
2800                  33.5                     .8                                      20.54
3040                  35                        .8                                      19.85

Anyone suggest the easiest upgrade for the ignition, maybe an easy tuneable dissy that puts a abit more spark . Wouldn't need much its a street motor..

looks like a decent curve
keep the ign you have unless you have points , just add a higher output coil for hotter spark

Thanks Chryco, its all standard  electronic, can you suggest an appropreate coil to mach for better performance?

Thanks Rob.

CAn you add an MSD to the setup or is that really overkill?

An off question; the ignition has a ballast resistor [of type] why?

just add the MSD vibration Blaster coil , nothing else needs to be MSD , there are a Number of other makes of high output coils available

coils were designed to work on 6 v systems & will not last connected to 12v + so the ballast drops voltage during constant use using limiting to around 8 v input , during starting the ballast is bypassed for a hotter spark , the only time you do not need a ballast is with an MSD control box that controls the power to the coil through the control box

Chryco, MSD makes a ton of coils...can you tell us the part number of the coil you are referring to?  I want a good coil to run with my MOPAR distributor and chrome ignition box.
