Vibration - help me please!!! - Update, Fixed!

My cuda has developed a vibration ...I would describe it as an oscillating vibration that starts at 50mph and get progressivly worse the faster you go.

It feels like it is comming from the trans area / between the seats.

The vibration is not present when you pop it into neutral as you are going down the road and rev the engine.

Any suggestions on what it could be.

I have made the following changes over that last few weeks...new trans mount, new OEM engine mounts (replaced incorrect mounts and moved the engine forward a fair bit) and a new exhaust system (headers back).

The vibration was not present prior to these changes.

Helppppp, I was hoping to take my car out of town tomorrow, but now I am not sure I should!!!!

Possible Driveshaft? Maybe angle is a little diff and the ujoints are worn?

I know when you take a trans out of gear the load change weather on or off the throttle will make a change?

Other than that it would seem something is maybe rubbing since you said it was not there before the work right?

However, man sometimes stuff just happens and drives ya a little nuts:)

Hmmm. think I found it...just went out and measured the drive shaft, 41.6/8 from center to center on the u-joints

I did some digging and I think the drive shaft should be 43.79 inches.

Any thoughts!

Since you said you moved the engine forward quite a bit ,

look at the input shaft and see where it is in relation to the end of the trans.

,there should be a slight wear pattern on the input shaft from where it used to be and now i bet it is not going in to the trans. far enough

Well if it is way to short angles can be a mess, but also you will not be in enough for tailshaft transmission bushing support too.

did you get her fixed yet?

Nope not yet...I wish though.  I pulled the old one out tonight, looks like the slip yolk is all buggered up too!

The drive shaft is definalty too short (42.5 inches).

I olnly looked quickly, but I think it is OK, jeezz it better be!  Looks like someone cut down the slip yolk.

That driveshaft I offered you does have a slip yoke on it if you need it.

I just wanted to say thanks to the 3 members that offered me a driveshaft...it really shows how great this site is!

I found the correct shaft locally, and shoudl be up and running tomorrow...just in time to pick my daughter up from her first day at school!

Here are a few pics of what some hack shadetree mechanic cobbled together (and a proper slip yoke and drive shaft for comparison)...

Hey guys...spent a couple of hours today installing the correct driveshaft (new u-joints too).

Went for test drive a little while ago and the vibtation is gone.

Nice to have something work finally!

That's great!!   I'm right behind you. Glad it worked out. I've got a good reference here to try for a driveshaft shop. Gonna try that before new axels and housing.
