I assume it would be possible, most things with cars are with enough money lol.

Someone out there probably makes bellhousing adapters that work for this. Although I think you would also have to do some changing to the stock ecu on the newer hemi motor, because it also controls the transmission.

Yeah I was watching overhaulin' and they bolted a 727 to a 6.1 hemi so if possible why not hook up the best auto tranny in history on a new hemi!!! I just need some direction thanks guys if anyone has more info let me know

Yes a smallblock torqueflite will bolt right up to the 3rd gen. Hemis. Mopar Performance sells a flexplate for this application or if you already have a truck flexplate you can use it by removing the starter ring gear slightly modifying the torque converter bolt holes. Use a stock 5.2/5.9 Magnum mini starter and you're good to go. You DO NOT need the adapter that Bouchillon sells!

Whats a realistic estimate on the cost of droping in a new hemi and when you say gen 3 I dont know what motor that is can you be more specific on what motor that is.

Gen 3 is the current generation (Gen 1 would be the 392, Gen 2 would be the 426, and now Gen 3).  Price wise can be anywhere from several thousand on up, depending on where you source your parts and how much you can do yourself.  Your best bet would probably to buy a complete drive line from a totaled car, take what you need and sell the rest.

I went through and did a rough cost estimate for everything required for a 6.1 conversion and it came out to be around $10k including spending $3500 for a complete 6.1 hemi from LKQ wrecking yards. Don't buy a wrecked car because you will only use the complete engine that's it. Everything else will come from other sources like your transmission of choice (727, 833, Tremec 5 speed, 518, etc), custom or modified gas tank, fuel line, wiring harness, computer, engine mounts, headers, sensors, etc. There was a beautiful write up on Moparts that a covered the conversion on a white 71 340 cuda that went step by step and included all of the parts required, the part numbers, the sources and the prices.

It means the parts are of "Like, Kind, and Quality" compared to the parts being replaced.    :2thumbs:

The only thing that I can think of that is our of the ordinary here is the flex plate.  The 3G HEMI uses an 8-bolt flywheel instead of the small blocks 6 bolt.  It does not match the 426 HEMI 8-bolt crank.

:iagree: Yes they are a national salvage yard company and have very good prices from what I have seen.

Mancini Racing sells the engine mounts, headers, flex plate (for attaching Gen III hemi to a 727 torqueflite) and oil pan.

I found the thread on Moparts that covers every detail of the install. In this case a 727 was used as well.
