4 speed identification help please!
« on: August 31, 2010 - 05:38:37 AM »
I took off my bellhousing cover today and had a peak. 2 bolts were loose on the pressure plate,so tightened them up. I want to know what 4 speed i have so i can plan my next purchases. The front retainer is 4.354 diameter and i have a pic to show you the spline. Hopefully someone can tell me if its a 23 or 18 spline??? I also want to buy a blowproof bellhousing to suit my cast crank 440. Would this do???

I found my old post!!!!!!  the light duty which is stronger than virtually any other 4 spd has the smaller 307 front brg & 4.35" diameter front brg retainer & 23 spline input shaft. As posted by Chryco  :worshippy Im guessing this is what i have.
Chryco,do you mean this box is stronger than the other 2 boxes with the 23 and 18 spline shafts with the 308 bearing?

I believe he was referring to the fact that the lightest duty Chrysler 4-speed is stronger than than Ford or Chevy 4-speeds...
