Could you get a 72 Cuda with a 318? I thought in 72 the Cudas only came with 340's.

I could be mistaken as I'm a Challenger guy.    :dunno:

The standard engine in the Cuda was a 318 I believe.  Same as the Challenger Rallye.

If you look at the numbers posted, that leaves 1109 Cudas with the 318.  I'm pretty sure you couldn't get a 318 with a 4-speed and I don't know if you could have gotten a 3-speed in a Cuda.  A little searching around Barry's site should uncover a few things.

This link says that the 340 was standard on the Cuda.  I'm still looking to see if the 318 was optional in 72.

Says the 318 wasn't available in the Cuda for 72.  :dunno:  Either the numbers are off or the data book was printed early and the factory decided to offer the 318 in the Cuda.  I'm sure Barry knows.

Yepper, 1109 72 cudas with 318-2bbl. I have no breakdown for transeses in the galloping gooroo book.

318 Barracudas with 318 4-speed totalled 176.

No, "transeses" is not actually a word.

I do not know when the change was made. I am sure that someone, somewhere has an edited data book or a set of 1972 Plymouth Product Information Bulletins that mentions it.

Anyone?  :1zhelp:

A Product Information Bulletin dated September 24, 1971 noted the following Barracuda carline changes:

For models BS23 (Cuda): The 318-2 Bbl engine (E44) replaces the 340-4 (E55) as standard.  The 340-4 engine will continue to be installed on the BS23 until a future date to be announced.

The same Bulletin also noted that Electronic Ignition System (N23) would be optional on the 318 engine when the 318 becomes available on the BS23.  Electronic Ignition remains standard with the 340.

Awesome!

Would you be interested in scanning it for the HH library? Do you have any others? I do not have any 1972 model year PIBs yet & very few for other years.

Well then that makes my BS23 my one of the 1109 made that way. I have been trying to figure out whether to apply the stripe it came with or hockey stick style? Also how can I know if the car came with hub caps or Rallys if it's not noted in the tag. My build sheet is long gone. The car also had a luggage rack and Cuda hood, with all the chrome.
