Drive Shaft Loop?
« on: August 31, 2010 - 01:34:11 PM »
The local Drag Strip requires a Drive Shaft Loop if you run Slicks. Where's a good place to get a bolt on deal for the old Challenger?
THANKS!

I think Summit and Jegs both have bolt in and weld in kits for sale. Look in the chassis section I believe....    :2thumbs:

I got mine through summit.  Haven't put it on the car yet but it looks nice.  The one I got attaches to the 727 cross member.

The US Cartool one bolts right to the cross member with no fab.  You can get it from Mancini also.

Got a summit part number?   Searched for "drive shaft loo" but all that came back were a couple universals and then all chebby and ferd kits.

I dont drag mine but I hammer her once in a while and was thinking of one of these....I kepe seeing my cars back end getting pole vaulted when the front u joint snaps and the shft catches one of the millions of potholes here in the keystone state...LOL...plus, they look cool.   $195 shipped is steep...is it the best choice?

I went with one from Jegs for $19.99, it's a universal deal. I'm going to try to find a way to bolt it on without drilling holes in the car. I think I can fabricate something to adapt it.

are these loops used on the rear side too?  I found traces of a driveshaft flying around under the backseat of my cuda...

I think the thought is that you dont need one for the rear.....if the rear drops, it will just drag.   If the front drops it has the potential to catapult the car up in the back if the shaft catches in the ground...

well, what I meant was that it cant dig into the ground and try to stop thecar at speed...I am sure it can bounce around etc.....which wouldnt be good either....but not as damaging as the other way.

I suppose, too, that the loop in the front would, to some degree, limit how far down the back end could hang down...

Sheared my diff pinion off many years ago (non MOPAR) doing a traffic light derby, shaft just dropped to the ground and fell out of gearbox and rolled to the side of the road.
