What would you do?
« on: September 01, 2010 - 01:45:05 AM »
So I came across a #s matching virgin 1970 barracuda with no rust & a complete good interior. It is going to need a repaint because the orignal paint has seen better days. I will post :picture: this weekend I promise. I have to drive it home from placerville first. :burnout:

I was just about to strip down my non matching #s 73 cuda and do a complete rebuild.
A 517 arruzza hemi with dual quad efi,
tubular K frame
full hotchkis suspension,
dana 60,
front&rear disc brakes,
shaker hood and so on.

The qustion I have is should I do the hemi swap with all the goodies on the 1970 barracuda, or should I put all the goodies in the 1973 cuda?

I also have a rebuilt six pack set up and 340 that I was going to make a stroker with. I was thinking of putting that in whatever car doesn't get the hemi?

Thank you all in advance for your help.

well as long as you keep all the original parts to put the 70 back either would work
but I would tend to leave the #s car alone & do the 73 as well

That's my thinking as well. Everything I am going to put on is bolt on minus the sub frame connectors. So you make a good point Chryco! Would i be banned from the  forum if I put the 340 stroker/six-pack in the 70 barracuda? :angelwings:

Hotrod the '73 & keep the '70 original.

That would be my path of action, why touch an original as far as equipment goes, you never mentioned what it had for a drivetrain but unless it was a /6 I'd leave it "unmolested". Even it was a /6 and you wanted to go with the hemi or 340 keep all original equipment.  :2cents:

That's a no brainer. A 70 with a hemi is much more badazz than a 73 with a hemi. Especially since 73's never came with hemis to begin with.
Make the 73 a nice driver with a small block. Once you've driven the hemi a little, you'll understand the need for an anemic small block driver.
I own 70's and 73's so no haters please.  :)

I can't believe I forgot to mention the drive train :screwy: the car came with a 318 slapstick auto. I'm assuming it is a 727 auto with a no limited slip in the rear?
I will post up the vin and fender tag on friday.
The paint color is like a beige with black interior.

Not that I would ever want to sell the cars but wouldn't a 70 hemi be worth more than a 73 hemi?  :dunno:

A 70 is worth much more than a 73 to begin with so you do the math. Plus the hemi placed in a 70 or 71 will increase the value of the 70 or 71 more than if it was placed in a 72, 73, or 74.

Me, I'd put the Hemi in the 70 if I put it in either because as others have mentioned a Hemi came in 70's not 73's.  that's just me though.  I totally understand not wanting to molest a #s matching car even a 318 one.  That's what I'm struggling with as the 73 318 Barracuda I bought earlier this year is VERY original, just wore out.  So anything I do will be 100% reversible.

:iagree: The only thing besides the sub frame connectors that would be hard to swap is the shaker hood I have. I guess I can get both hoods painted so if i do decide to swap back the 318 it will look original.

If it was mine it wouldn't bother me to mod the '70 because it's not one of the high $ models.
I'd put my $ and horsepower in whichever car you like the best.  :2cents:
