So what is the correct color?
« on: November 03, 2004 - 01:27:09 PM »
All right all of you fanatics, here is a crazy question that I wasn't sure where to put it. ???

The backside of my Challenger is silver. The tail light housings and the divider between them.
I've seen about 99% of the other Challengers are all black. I've also seen one that was black divider with silver tail light housings.

My question being out of curriosity more than anything else is, could the backs be ordered or come different colors? I know my car is not stock, and through the years liberties have been taken on it, but the body is pretty much as they were 30 years ago.

One more while we are on odities, is I have my antena in the passenger side rear quater as opposed to the passenger front. Looks like it belongs, but again doesn't match others I've seen. I have a calender with a red '73 on it and it's a dead ringer for my car with the exception of the antena location ( and maybe the rear, but it is only a pic of the front and side ).

OK now I'm done ranting, so any feedback would be great - plus besides obvious biggies like Hemi's and 'Verts, who knows what the rarest options were??

OK now I'm done :P

TA's and AAR's have the antena on the passanger rear quarter because of the interfirance of radio frequency pretaining to the fiber glass hood, if your car had them stock, i doubt it. then the passanger side front fender shouldn't be drilled for a antena might have been filled in.

I love little tid bits like that - and I would have never knew that. Like you say, it is not a T/A and for more obvious reasons not an AAR.
OK one down one to go - who knows about the rear color ( now I'm getting greedy )

I would agree, but wouldn't all rallye cars be black regardless of v-8?

I think it was black for all Ralley Challengers too. Someone might have added an original rear antenna to your car. I've seen some old pics where this was done. Take a look and see if the front fender has been plugged.

As far as I know all r/t's and rallyes had a black tail panel while all non r/ts and rallyes were argent silver.

Whats the year of this car and can you give us the first 7 digits of your vin. I.E. JH23H0B****** or whatever it is. I am not too familiar with Challenger models as in an R/T SE might have had an argent silver tail panel or if it had an option package that called for the tail panel to be painted that color, which I think is called astrotone?? (I think)
Dont forget to register your AAR at the AAR Registry only at www.transamcuda.com 1981 AAR's on file. Also info on 70 thru 74 E-Bodies. Ask me about yours!!

Well, it's a '73 Challenger so that counts out R/T ( right? )
I BELIEVE it is supposed to be an original rally car ( 340 long gone - ughh )
I'll have to get the VIN tonight ( shame on me for not memorizing right )

Also, the front fender has been pluged - so that mystery has been solved!

You guys are good - this is the kind of stuff that keeps me up at night  :P

I'm thinking black too, that happens to be the only silver on the car - even under the hood and the interior I've made black my accent color.
To each his own but man there were these terrible "electric blue" accents on EVERYTHING when I bought her. I like the black personaly.

OK, there has got to be someone who bucks the trend, right? I'm just an argent silver guy ::) I have a 70 Challenger T/A clone, but the grill and headlight bezels are silver. I just wish I had some kind of photoshop software that I could change your tail panel to black and see how it looked. I like how it looks now. I'm just afraid if you paint it black, it will take away from the T/A style spoiler that is on there ??? Maybe I'm wrong????????

Here's a tail shot of my first '73 Rallye. A 318 car that was parked at now closed Roebuck Chrysler Plymouth while getting an engine rebuild circa '81. Dad's 68 Polara is in the background. My car was still wearing the original paint and vinyl top. That's why i've always thought the 318 Rallyes were silver in the back although the recessed area around each tail light was black.

Before i sold my first '73 :'(, i had her painted, striped, and rear spoilered into my own T/A wannabe. Even had a real T/A block and six pack and the "trans am" tag under the hood. These shots are from summer '88. I thought i was too cool  ;D 8)  Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread :P
