AAR Cuda and 1971 Cuda Prices Plummeting

Check these out:

This is 2003 pricing, right before that moron paid 99K for an AAR at Barrett-Jackson and sent the whole Mopar economy sky-high.  Personally, I'm ecstatic.  Now maybe the cars can be put back in the hands of the people who truly love them, and we can get the scumbag investors out of the equation.

JeffAARy,
Be careful what you wish for. Like everything else the prices will come back. They will probably never be as high as their peak but they will be better. Just because someone pays more for a car then you would does not make them a moron in my book. I think another reason prices went up is because of Nash Bridges and Foose and the Cuda's have been on TV Shows a lot. Seeing these cars on TV makes more people aware of how great these cars are. Look at the movie Transformers now a lot of people want Yellow and Black Camaros because of the Bumblebee Camaro in the movie.  The economy will get better and people will start buying cars again. I remember when no one wanted ours Mopars and I for one am glad the prices went up and people were buying our cars. Hope everyone has a safe Labor Day Weekend.

While I like lower prices, I think the higher prices of the past caused more companies to reproduce parts that were unavailable before. So in that way, the higher prices helped IF you had a car already. :2cents:

Good deal if you are in the market for an AAR!

:iagree:   Good point! I wonder if at some point down the road will the aftermarket die off as most/all the car will be restored?

 I sure would love a 71 Cuda or a 70 GTX...burnt orange.... :pullinghair:

Prolly not, these cars will need to be restored again someday, which reminds me of what this old fella said at the spring round up when I commented on the fact that he was using an original 69 Daytona to haul a trailer. "we restored it once and we can do it again"

I own a resto company and many of the companies that I've been talking to won't replace many of their parts once they're gone. Sales are not that great and many of the cars out there have already been restored. If you need a part, you better get it now. I'm buying up several thousands of dollars worth of parts for a few of my future resto projects.
Most of the parts at BEA and PG Classics are a one run only. Get them while you can. Supplies are already low on several part numbers.
You will never, ever see this many resto parts again. I promise you that.

Think of this also,my car is not worth what the parts are worth so it could easily be stripped and destroyed.

I think as the demand diminishes, the smaller companies that were able to jump on the bandwagon will drop out, and only the big names with the financial backing (Year One, Classic Industries etc) will keep on going.

The bigger parts - body panels, grills, interior trim etc - are what will consistently be produced, while the smaller obscure times may only get re-produced once every few years in smaller batches - rather than having an endless supply of stock that won't move.

Year One can't sell parts that aren't being produced. They've dropped hundreds of part numbers in the last couple of years alone.
It's the old law of "supply and demand".

I'm not seeing where it actually says it's an AAR.  In fact, it appears that it is just a Barracuda dressed up like an AAR.  For $35,000 that would seem like a high price to pay, actually.  Wonder if the buyer thought he was getting an AAR.

JJust because someone pays more for a car then you would does not make them a moron in my book.

Depends how much more.  The car in question was a red AAR with black interior.  There was nothing special about it above and beyond being an AAR.  The going rate for a nice, documented, matching numbers AAR at that time was $35K to $40K.  There were several such AARs available for sale on cudaworld.com and Mopar Collectors Guide at that time for under $40K.  Then someone paid $99k at Barrett-Jackson for that red AAR.  I believe paying 2.5X market value for a product that could be found easily with a quick internet search qualifies as moron status.  What would your spouse call you if you paid 2.5X for something they knew where/how to get for fair market value?
