70 challenger mirrors
« on: September 03, 2010 - 09:24:07 PM »
Guys I am in a quandry.  I hate the 70 mirrors being different.  I have chrome 70 drivers remote mirror that is like new.  But I am thinking of using the 71-74 type mirrors due to them being a little larger and being the same on Driver and passenger. Does anyone have any thoughtson this or am I just crazy?  Thanks, Danny

Any other year mirrors look out of place on the '70, so......

Yes, you are crazy.

The good news is that you will grow less crazy the more you drive it.

Thanks Alaskan TA.  I guess I will stay with the 70 mirrors.  Why do the other mirrors look out of place?  Is it just because they are not factory to the 70?  I would have thought you wouldn't notice the difference.

The mounting bases on the newer ones are  l o n g e r  so they look out of place & are very easy to spot.

It seems like the mounting holes are farther apart too, so you would be drilling more holes to make them work if I remember right?

I have the 71-74 mirrors on mine too. They were cheaper to come by, and I like the look of the longer base.

Just a thought...If you like the 71-74 mirrors, you can always sell your 70 mirrors and make a few $$.

To go another step up the crazy ladder, I sold my decent 70 console for a 71-74 in mint shape. My reasoning was my car didn't have seat belts in it, and I certainly wasn't going to pay the piper for a set of 70 belts. Back then they weren't re-popped. so sets were going for a grand on E-Bay. Anyway, I hated looking at that slot in the back, and figured an ashtray would look better. I sold my 70 console for over $100 more than I paid for the 71-74.

I thought the same thing about the console Mike.  I don't care for the slot either, but I kept my 70 console.

:smilielol:  Mine was originally a column shift, when I converted it I put in a 71-74 console too. Cheaper and easier to find.

I think 'morons' a lot, but it has nothing to do with customizing cars.

I'm putting '70 mirrors on my '73 because I prefer the shorter base and cleaner look. We are painting both sets of mirrors so they can be swapped back to stock if I decide to do so.

While on this subject. How do you remove the glass from passenger side? Mine has what looks to be sanding marks and i want to replace it.
