Looking for some fender/antenna advice
« on: November 04, 2004 - 03:23:51 PM »
I am wondering has anybody else used fiberglass fenders on their car, and if so, where/how did you mount your antenna?  I don't thing that mounting it to the fiberglass fender is a good idea at all, and I am not completely sold on the idea of moving it to the quarter.  I thought maybe there would be some type of antenna that could be mounted somehwere that isn't noticable, but cant find anything like that.  Any suggestions?

The fiberglass should be plenty strong enough to mount the antenna but if you are worried you could put a small metal reinforcing plate on the bottom to help.I have metal fenders but I removed the antenna and welded up the hole for a clean look but I have had no luck finding a hidden antenna that will work so I just play a lot of tapes.

I'm with torredcuda here ;) I think the fiberglass will hold the antenna just fine. I haven't seen any "hidden" antenna tricks that you can use.

yeah, maybe I'm just being paraniod.  When I installed the fenders, I glassed in a re-inforcing plate with a threaded stud on it where the fender bolts to the bracket in the door jamb, and i swear, you can see where it's at.  Nobody else seems to see it, But I think i can see an outling of where the plate is at.  Thats why I'm nervous about attatching it to the fender.

A while back I found an antenna that mounts to your rear view mirror and you run the lead wire behind whatever trim you have around the inside of the window (uses small flat lead wire) and hide it best you can up to the radio jack. Don't know how well it works or if it even works. Found this at an O'Riellies auto parts store. Jc Whitney used to have one that taped itself to the top inside of the windsheild and was barely noticeble...dont know if these are still available or not anymore

I put an antenna inside the center consol of my GTO. It actually worked halfway decent. Just take a standard antenna that you can get anywhere (sell your original as it’s worth money) and lay it horizontal under the consol. If you don’t have a consol, you might try under the back seat or maybe even in the trunk under the rear package tray.
