screw inserts for challenger mirrors

Does anyone know how these go in?  I ordered the screws and inserts for my mirrors.  What holds the inserts in once you have drilled the holes and put them in the doors?  Is their a special tool that crimps them in and if so where would I get one? This is for a 70 Challenger. Thanks, Danny

Yes there a tool that will in stall them correctly,doing it without this tool the mirrors will always come loose.

it is like a pop rivet , you need a tool to compress the insert & lock it into the steel panel

I went to Lowes and bought stainless screws to install the mirror with too. I had to turn down the heads of the screw a little to fit into the mirror but it worked well!

Believe me, the TOOL is worth every penny, ask me how I know.  I tried a few different ways to install them with out they tool and every time the where loose.  I asked around and found a friend who had one, and two minutes later all four where in place and tight.  The right tool for the right job!

We don't have harbour freight here in Canada so I bought one locally . Paid through the nose for it too! Like $50 something....

Basically yep! It's like a pop rivit that has threads inside. The tool threads into the insert, put it in the hole squeeze and it swells the part you just put in the hole and pulls tight to the sheet metal so it won't spin.
I can't remember exactly why I didn't use the suplied screws...it was either they were the wrong thread for the inserts that come with the tool  ( 10-24 or 10-32) or it was because they were not stainless and I wanted stainless.
 I did have to slightly turn down the heads of the screws , so they fit in the mirror holes. You could do the same with a disc grinder and spin the screws to make the head smaller...You can't see the outside of the heads of the screws when it's installed.

Thanks Brad, I was under the impression that tool was alot more.  A body guy told me they were really expensive.  I guess expensive means different amounts to different people.  Thanks again, Danny
