They aren't saying he won't benefit from the cheap paint job, but the buyer of the car after it receives a cheap paint job will most likely over pay for the car because the car will look a lot nicer than it really is, sort of like the old use car salesman tactics of running the odometer backwards with a drill or sawdust in the transmission case to hide that its worn out.
I don't think mcemond is concerned about his Buyer over paying for the car!
If he doesn't disclose the condition of the car, then he'll be doing the same thing that was done to him. If he does disclose the condition of the car then the money put into the paint job will be wasted.

Listen, pretty/shiny things sell better than dull. That is all that I'm saying. And the possibility of him getting his motivation back to keep it.
I haven't seen any body issues that won't come out with prep; other than the drivers fender. And don't forget, paint is on metal to protect it from naturally occurring rust. Every car needs paint. Might as well put a cheap paint job on it as the increase in the sale will be positive afterwards.
