keep it no matter how you deal the cards you would have lost money on the sale later or now . you are in 10,000$ no matter how you look at it and at a loss anyway you look at it . tha car can be restored it  is a 71 cuda 340 , later when you sell it the car will always be a cuda and there is always a person willing to buy a mopar and a cuda well i know for a fact the return will ne there even with a loss.you could even put a hemi in it to make the car worth more !!!!!!
VALUE IS BASED ON WHAT SOMEONE IS WILLING TO PAY AND IT DOES GO BOTH WAYS!!!

Wow - I guess the seller must have no conscience.  I cannot believe he did not take the 5K and let you back out.  Seems like he knew exactly what he was doing.

That being said, before you take a 15K bath on the car, I'd sit on it for a little while to collect your thoughts.  Maybe spend some time (and as little money as possible) getting the car road worthy and then take it for a spin.  Who knows, maybe driving it will warm you up to it a little more...

Thanks again guys. From talking with people both local and here, it would be better to sell it. It will take me about two years to save up another 10 -15 k at which point I could get a complete one. If I restored this one at an additional 20 - 30k we're talking 4 - 5 years. Originally I was in to the whole restoration thing but I started feeling pretty bad about how taken advantage of I was in this deal and its pretty much sapped my desire to do a lot of hard work on this car. It just really deflated any desire to work with it. That said, I can't afford to pay someone else to do the work for me. In terms of getting it driving, the 318 that's in it is close to dead so it would need a new block so driving it is out. I did verify the vin and fender tags though prior to purchase and it is a real cuda bs23h1b...  I'd rather not 'out' the guy as some have suggested because as far as I can tell, he didn't outwardly lie to me about anything, except the perceived value of the car which is simply his inflated opinion. The fact that he is holding me to the deal was to be expected. I'm not the type of guy to threaten legal action either. There's just no way I could do that.

So, over the fall here I'll do what one person had suggested and give it a cheap paint job and put it back together as best I can so it shows better. Then I'll probably put it on ebay for 15k no reserve and see what happens with the bidding. Live and learn. That said I'm still excited about the possibility of some day having a nice cuda to take the wife and kids out for ice cream in :)

Hi
From what I've been reading, now is the time to go ahead and buy while the economy drives down prices. I was originally going to take a relaxed approach to all this and maybe over the next year one would pop up that I could buy while I leasurely finish up another mopar restoration but people seem to be warning against waiting too long. So here it goes...

My budget:
Up to 30k for the purchase plus a $500 finders fee if it results in a purchase (including an on site, honest assesment, note fender tag and block numbers, and pictures if it is close to the finder). My situation makes it difficult to take days off to fly out for personal inspections or to transport (I can make it around New England area though - I live in NH). I'm used to buying hard to find vehicles and having them transported to me. Any leads I would also post on this forum for second opinions on price due to my inexperience with this model vehicle. I can't do anything over 30k. If I spend all 30 I have just enough left over for the finders fee and transport. Just trying to be up front with anyone looking to sell.

Car:
I'm looking to get as close as I can (given my budget - you can start laughing now  :roflsmiley:) to a true '71 hemi 'cuda, complete, numbers matching, original block (any size), green orange or yellow with black billboard, shaker hood, with title. I'd be ok with a project car, daily driver, or restored car. The better value is in the ones already restored (this is my preference) but I don't mind doing a full or partial restoration if it means getting a cuda closer to what I'm looking for. Also, most of the restored ones are way over 30k.

Do I think I can get all that in a solid car for under 30k? Not a chance. But like I said, I'm shooting for as close as I can get here. Basically the best value for my money. You can contact me at michael.emond@gmail.com. Emailing me will get a quicker response but I've been monitoring my posts about once a day.
Thanks for reading
Mike

Considering that you found the car in 4 days after your original post, the seller or a friend of the seller must be on this forum?

What does the seller have to say after reading these posts?

Do the forum a favor and out him (or them) so another newbie doesn't fall victim to being ripped off.

As for the seller, he's probably either laughing all the way to the bank or driving a "New 2010 SRT8 Challenger" now.

By not outing him, you are only protecting him. Is that what you want???

STOP WHILE YOU ARE AHEAD, or at least not as far behind.

Explain how the deal is laid out and why you can't cancel the check.

You are paying $32k for an $8k car. so why would you want to lose $25k instead of $10k???? This is ridiculous.  :hyper:

OY,I just found this also,i feel for you dude.
you seem like a straight forward honest dude and i,like the others here think the guys a low life for taking what he did for this car.if he had any scropples he would take the 5k and give back the rest of your money.this is a tuff situation either way you look at it.i'm with you what ever you decide and i know you have learned alot from this that theres alot of dishonest people out there who stick it to other people.if you {the seller] read these post i hope you have it in your heart and straighten this out.  :swear:

:puke: :puke: :puke:  It makes me sick that things like this happen. I am so sorry this happened to you. I'm not going to offer advice, but whatever you end up doing with it, I really hope it works out.   My condolences, my friend.

My car has been decades in the making because I've been taken advantage of (a lot) and until recently I just didn't know any better. It's good of you to try to be upstanding, but the point of a non-refundable deposit is that if you decide to walk away, the seller get's your deposit for his time and trouble (and in this case, I think, more than enough). If I were in your position now, I'd turn my back on this purchase and keep looking.

I think we are all in agreement that would have been the correct decision, but if I understand correctly, he has already paid for the car in full and taken delivery.  So, the decision now is consider a slipery legal slope, or keep the car and restore it or sale it (putting on a cheap paint job to enhance the sale is not recommended either considering the car needs a full restoration).

I must have missed that part.
