So, the decision now is consider a slipery legal slope, or keep the car and restore it or sale it (putting on a cheap paint job to enhance the sale is not recommended either considering the car needs a full restoration).
This makes no sense... He's not putting a full restoration on it so why wouldn't he enhance the sale on the cheap???

the only reason you put a cheap paint on a car is to hide stuff to attract the buyer that dosnt know too much. not a very good idea , myop

I gotta go with mopar12372. I think that whether it has a paint job or not, it will be sold as a project. And anyone looking for a project will not be influenced in any way by a paint job if the car needs extensive body work. But what do I know, I stock corn for a living.

You guys made me go back and look the car over for a third time.  So you don't think he will benefit from a cheap, shiny paint job.  Doing so would pay for itself plus... Hell, he might actually consider keeping it after he see's what he has. :picture:

They aren't saying he won't benefit from the cheap paint job, but the buyer of the car after it receives a cheap paint job will most likely over pay for the car because the car will look a lot nicer than it really is, sort of like the old use car salesman tactics of running the odometer backwards with a drill or sawdust in the transmission case to hide that its worn out.

:iagree: If he doesn't disclose the condition of the car, then he'll be doing the same thing that was done to him. If he does disclose the condition of the car then the money put into the paint job will be wasted.

I don't think mcemond is concerned about his Buyer over paying for the car!

Ever heard of 'what comes around goes around'?

Listen, pretty/shiny things sell better than dull.  That is all that I'm saying.  And the possibility of him getting his motivation back to keep it.

I haven't seen any body issues that won't come out with prep; other than the drivers fender.  And don't forget, paint is on metal to protect it from naturally occurring rust.  Every car needs paint.  Might as well put a cheap paint job on it as the increase in the sale will be positive afterwards.

Yikes. Sorry. I am only able to check in every few days. When the whole paint job thing was suggested to me it made a lot of sense and still makes a lot of sense. I could see someone looking at it and saying 'what a hunk of junk'. I guess it would be an effort to get a buyer to see past the surface rust and different colors and focus on the potential. In the end I'm completely crushed by the whole episode so I don't really care if its painted or not. I just want it gone. I'll put it on ebay for 15k no reserve (as is) and see what happens. If someone bids on it in its current condition, awesome. My loss is their gain and all of that... If it doesn't sell I'll have to think about painting it to make it more apealing to a potential buyer just so I can move on and start saving again. I'll try to disclose any information I know about the car but I really don't want to take more than a 50% hit on this if I can help it. I am honestly not trying to be decieving here and due to the posts here I'll give it a shot and try selling it without new paint. Hopefully it will sell immediately and all that good karma will come back to me in the form of a super deal on another cuda  :2thumbs:
Thanks
Mike
