Weighed my Challenger on the speedway scales last night ....
« on: September 12, 2010 - 02:34:40 PM »
I work part time as a tech official at a local Nascar sanctioned track. So while I was setting up the scales I thought I would run my Challenger over them. It was what I expected. Weights are with me in the car ( I'm 250 lbs) 440/727, 8 3/4 rear end, aluminum rad,intake ,water pump, headers, subframe connectors, T/A hood etc....
Total = 3832
LF=1143    RF=1028
LR=840      RR=820
It was sort of funny a few racers noticed my car going on the scales and came over to tease me. Wondering if I was gonna race it, a few offered to help me cut it up to build a stock car out of it!  I told them I wouldn't want to embarrass all those Chevy's  :bigsmile:
We had the Nascar Canadian Tire series at the track  yesterday and they had a SRT Challenger for a pace car.  :2thumbs: I wanted to get a picture of it parked next to mine, but I didn't bring a camera! :banghead:

Really? :eek2:   I'm shocked? :clueless: are you sure? Do you have non-stock items installed? Any aluminum parts?

I used to weigh tractor trailers in and out at a gypsum plant. I rolled my '73 Barracuda up on the scales one night and I think it was around 3200 lbs without me in it and it had a 318 with a 727 automatic tranny. Nice car by the way!!

Brad,

  The good news is I wouldn't have guessed you were 250, but I think my car might be close to your numbers without a doubt.    :sadwavey:

  I was just as shocked.  Weighed on the scale at Atco Raceway a few years ago.  No aluminum parts.  big block, six pack, A/C, power steering, Gear Vendors, sub frame connectors, 15" rims, spare tire and lots of dynomat.

Wow the only difference between out cars is the A/C,6 pack, and the Gear Vendors.... :22yikes: I can't believe that would add over 400 lbs?

  73 probably has heavier steel that your 70 possibly behind the bumpers and other places??

All that dynamat adds up quickly too.

I'm not too suprised by the numbers here. So many think because an E body is shorter than a B body that they should be lighter, but that just aint the case. BTW, my 74 is around mid 3600, small block , all original everything. But I have been stripping things out of it like the .25 thick steel plates under the rear windows, bumper reinforcements, the huge bumper guards, etc. Haven't had it back on the scales since, though.

The lightest i got my challenger was 3625 lbs, 440 auto, aluminum heads, 17 inch wheels,

then after stereo,sub,dynamat,subframe connectors, it is now 3900 lbs,and runs a 14 flat with 323 gears,good enough for me :eek2:

The 73 would have reinforcement beams in the door as well.
