Rotissorie Body Connections - E Body
« on: September 13, 2010 - 07:22:22 AM »
I am building a rotissorie for my cuda.  I would like to see your pictures of the body mount connections.

Do the mounts typically accomodate the front and rear valence?

On the front, I am thinking the mount should be similar to the bumper brackets so that the valence and perhaps grille could be installed.  For the rear, I am thinking that it should bolt to the rear spring eye location and come thru the rear valence bumperette location.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The one I used was mounted to the same holes as the bumper brackets. Rich.

Thanks for the pictures, but all of these appear to not permit the installation of the front and rear valence.

Look at the attached picture of Topcat's from Autobody101 posting.  It allows fitting of the rear valence (PIA?).

What would the front mounts look like to accomodate the front valence?

No one?  It would seem that all rotisserie users do not mount the front or rear valence.

I custom made both front and rear mounts.
The rears: I took inner box dia. measurements and matched up square tube to go inside. About a foot long (don't have exact length right off hand) Then welded to 1/4" steel plate. Drilled holes for rear bumper bracket locations.

Fronts: did pretty much the same thing except the tube is welded on the plates on the sides. Front lower Valance isn't on the car because it interferes with the brackets.

Save this picture then zoom in. You'll see there's no way the valence can be on while the car is on the rotisserie.

There is just not many  reasons to mount the valance while on a rotisserie. You will want to mount the bumper as well and be able to see it all mounted without the rotisserie in the way. Once you get to that point a body dolly may be better for what you are trying to do. The rotisserie is so you can get to the underside of the car easier, not really designed as a body mockup frame.

Agreed!

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

gkring - can you provide some detailed pictures of your vert door bracing? In particular the mounting points and the turnbuckle mechanism.  I looked at Clark Classic restoration photo's and they appear to use the side rear seat belt bolt holes as their brace anchor and the other on the dash (dash removed).  This allows them to keep the doors on.

Never having done this before and seeing many cars on rotisseries being painted, it just seemed normal to have the front and rear valence on as well.

I will try to mimic the front bumper mounts for my rotisserie arms.

For my 70 Challenger, while it was on the rotissorie, I replaced all the lower panels in front of and behind the rear wheels due to rust.  The patch panels were terrible for fit and to get a match with the rear valence panel I needed to have it in place.  When I made my rotissorie I did not anticipate this problem and had to modify it while the car was on it.  I would advise you to make your rotissorie so that you can install your rear valence.
The attached photos show a nice fit with the panels that would not have been possible otherwise.  PK

Greg, I'm just in the proces of hanging my vert up in the rotesserie, do you feel that it's enough only bracing the dooropenings?
