need to run transmission lines need help
« on: September 14, 2010 - 04:11:13 PM »
Hi I need to run new lines for my tranny (I think it`s a 904 tranny is 31" long) but I don`t know the best way to route them.I don`t have an exhaust in yet so I don`t want to put them in my own way.Any photos, diagrams or whatever you have to help would be appreciated.I have a roll of Stainless Steel braided line with what looks like a white plastic tubing inside it heavy duty stuff, would that work if I had fittings made for it? The lines right now just run out and back in to tranny so the car could be moved around.Does anyone make OEM lines if so how much would they cost?Car is a 72 Barracuda motor and tranny not original to car so would an OEM line even fit? Thanks.

For what it`s worth here is a pic of the tubing I was talking about.

I think you have to let us know if you have the original radiator in the car with the connections at the bottom of the radiator.  I suspect you have a 318 since you have a 904 engine.  There is a small block lines and big block lines.  I don't know what the difference is but I suspect it is because of the way the radiators is built which fits those two style of engines. They are readily available I believe at the vendors advertising here (Roseville, Nicks, etc.).  The local advertised vendors will give a a discount if your a member.  If you want to pay more year one inc has what you want.

Yes it is the original radiator in car but it was for a 6 cyl.The radiator connections are at the bottom it is a 318 motor. Will this radiator be big enough for a v8 I`m thinking no and I should get a larger one.I think the stainess hose I have might work out nice for me as long as I fasten it well.

There are two general size radiators.  The large one is a 26 inch radiator but I've heard of both sizes in big blocks.  I have air-conditioning which generally came with the larger radiator.  I think your good with what you have for any engine up to a 360 (small block radiator).  If your putting a radical big block in then you probably want larger but a stock setup with minor modifications you should be good.

If you go to a large block the water inlet shifts to the other side of the radiator so to look stock you'd have to replace it.  Otherwise you'll have some interesting hose configurations to make it work.  Hope that was helpful.
