I bought it out of a van. The guy I bought it from said it was a 318, but I saw a sticker in the hood that said 5.9 4v and then once I got it out I saw the casting number: 4179930-360. So I got me an engine to use until I can build a nice big block! That is once the car is drivable.....

Quadrajets replaced the Thermoquad ~ 1985.  Last year for use of the Quadrajet was 1988 360s (Trucks/Vans) and 1989 318s (M-body).

Learned something new! I didn't know they were put on Mopar's? Thought is was only a GM thing.

I actually had a 2bbl 318 that I switched over to a 4 bbl Holley.  I hada  Q-Jet kicking around and tossed it on and it performed better than the Holley due to the smaller primaries.

One of the many motoros I've had in my car was a 318 police motor with a Quadrajet. It sounded a lot more impressive than it was

So is that carb a good carb? I really don't know anything about carbs. I don't even know how to find out what size it is....I'm up in Pennsylvania right now anyway so I won't be able to do anything. We are moving next month hopefully and then I will be able to clean up the motor and all that good stuff. I plan on disassembling it and checking it out. I have a book to go off of so I should be alright...

I'll probably just run it as is since it's a complete motor that way I can have my car up and running quicker. Maybe just a cam/intake swap...

This motor should have a great set of swirl-port heads.  What's the casting number?

I doubt the swirl ports will be there , they started around 87 the casting number will end in 308 if they are swirl port.
 the QJet is decent & should be at least 750 CFM , I would recommend a cam swap anyway , something with low overlap to help build compression will work well

I will have to check the head casting numbers later when I get back to the house. I'm up in Pennsylvania right now for my work rotation. I've gotta tear the engine down and spec it out. This will actually be my first one, so I will probably be asking a ton of questions! But, at least it gives me a good excuse to buy more tools....
