72 Barracuda title trouble Ct and Mass.
« on: September 17, 2010 - 12:20:20 PM »
PROBLEM SOLVED!!! I was able to prove continuity of ownership down to me and the RMV issued me a title. Although they did bend me over on taxes for book value of $13,000.00 cost me $875 + for title and taxes ouch!

Ok here is my problem I just bought a 72 Barracuda and need a title, car was from Connecticut I am in Massachusetts.Rmv said I need prev owner to get Ct. title then I can get Mass title.

I do have the original title for car from original owner and a bill of sale from original owner to subsequent owner dated in 1997 who apparently never registered car. Then sold to next owner who also never registered it. I purchased car from this seller last week. Here is a scan of the back of title.I`m thinking of trying to use this title when I go back to rmv and pray it works but upon looking at back of title it looks like it may have been transfered to a relative back on 6/2/79 so it may be null and void.I also have an old registration for car from 1972 if it helps but I doubt it.

I just want to get this car in my name the easiest way possible.I don`t care if I have to pay for a Ct title myself and then transfer to Ma and pay again. If anyone knows how to help me gate through this RMV B.S. I would be very gratefull.

Do I need to get previous owner involved or can I get it done myself.

Not really sure if this was the correct place to post but it looks as close as I could find with my problem.

CT will not title any car from pre-1981.  I've tried, just for my records... You have to take the car to a title service, or find a copy of CT's last registration.

I got this (see scan name and vin blocked out) and an expired registration from 1972 don`t know if it would work to get me the title.I spoke with the seller today and he was also telling me about a title service are they legit?Sounds kinda shady like you`re giving them your car and hoping you get it back.Pic not scaning right  getting cut off anyway It says "Connecticut temporary Identification Card" whatever that is,probably last official thing this car has seen since it was last on the road.

Glad you got you title issues solved.  I'm in MA too and man, I had to go back 3 times because they "didn't like" certain things.  Like in the bill of sales, she didn't like the part where it states the car was sold as is or for parts.  It wasn't a parts car and I even showed her pics of the car but she said she didn't like it so I had to get the seller from NH to rewrite the bill of sales.  I know your pain...  :faint:

Thanks for sharing your pain Super Blue.Going to the registry is always a Hellish experince for me,usually I get the lady who has all the personality and robotic movements of one of those talking 25 cent fortune teller dummies you used to see at an old amusement park!I thought I was going to have to drive a wooden stake through her heart to get my title untill I realized she has no HEART!!!

My title did arrive in the mail a few days ago so now it is officially mine!If all goes well I hope to have some paint on her and be cruising by the summer! :woohoo:
