stroker kit or piece by piece?
« on: September 18, 2010 - 02:43:19 PM »
i was going to but a complete rotating assembly from mopac, cast crank, i beams rods and forged pistons but lately i have found alot of parts on kijiji and craigslist. if i buy piece by piece i would get forged crank and h beams for the same price but what would i be missing? i assume that all rods will work with all cranks?

another question, there is a member on moparts selling some new '' nascar 340 '' rods, he explains that they are very heavy [ 900 grams ]. i looked up eagle h beams and they are 600 grams, would these heavy rods actually hinder performance to the point that you would feel it? i don't plan on building a screamer just a street brute.

I've done a fair amount of reading on this as I'm seriously considering a 438 stroker for the Roadrunner.  I've also wondered about picking & choosing my parts vs. a kit such as the one from 440Source.  One concern I'd have doing this myself is that depending on rod length, size of the crank weights which are often turned down for B motors at least, light weight stroker pistons and I or H-beam rods, etc. I'd be concerned that the balance wouldn't come out right.  Like I said, I look forward to some of the more experienced engine builders here weighing in on this.

Chryco Psycho, I just wanted to tell you how impressed I am in how helpful you are to members.  I appreciate your willingness to go out of your way to help others.  Your definitely old school because in today’s world I observe we teach people to not get involved so they can't be blamed for any unforeseen negative outcomes.

To me your a positive role model and I hope to bring up my children with that mind set.  Doing right by others is its own reward and only makes for a better world.  I just wanted to know I observe this attribute of yours and appreciate it.  Thank you.

We started this site almost a decade ago now & I have always been a pay it forward type of person & seem to have attracted a lot of other like minded members here !!.
I believe I have had a lot to do with making this site different from most sites just because I am always willing to give & never expected anything in return . I have struggled finacially all my life but I have spent a lot of time I had available to kill & could have wasted watching TV I guess but I don`t have a TV & prefer the challenge of helping others as much as I can to the best of my ability using the knowledge I have picked up working on these cars .
As you said helping others is its own reward & I thrive on the help I have been able to extend to people here & in person around the world & yes things have occaisionally gone wrong but we just work through it & make it right .
I have to acknowledge the Help that has been extended to me as well , we have some very generous members here that helped me by suppling needed parts to get My own Challenger restored over the last 2 years after waiting almost 30 years to actually get it restored & with help in other areas including a computer to keep me online  !!
It has been absolutly fantastic to build this site & meet the people here , I never imagined where  we are today would have been possible  with all the experiences that have happened from flying to numerous places to help build cars , to funding a building the car we gave to Don & just being at Carlisle for the increadibly short 3 days once every year or 2 !!
Thanks to everyone here who makes this site what it is .. I can`t wait to see where we are in 5 more years !!

I have to agree that it is the membership here that does make a difference and the biggest reason I always want to check in. I can only hope to provide the type of assistance that come naturally to members like CP, Al, and others that hang out here. You all are truly assets to this community and I'd consider any of you friends even though we've only ever met electronically. I certianly hope to meet  some of you all sometime in the future to put names to the faces.

To the original post, you certainly can pick up parts piece meal, but then you better have a good machinist you trust to balance them all together to make them work right.
