Gran Coupe in WA state
« on: September 22, 2010 - 10:53:49 PM »
The car

1970 Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe was a Deep burnt orange LA assembled car , Now mutating into a Gran Coupe ( will stay GC with badges and interior) with a cuda 440 4-barrel 4-speed drivetrain. Most of the parts for the resoration have been collected and has taken many years, (e-bay, craigslist, word of mouth). Restoration is starting to move quicker now, just got the 4-speed pedals in yesterday and will be welding in the hump soon. I was surprised when I pulled out the carpet to find no rust in the floor pans or underneath when i was stripping and primering. Engine compartment was stripped and painted Fj5 Lime green ( may favorite cuda color , DPorange looks great but I wanted the green ).

Car was in accident back in the early 80 hit in the drivers quarter, bent inner wheel well slightly and trunk extension a bit, panel was bondo filled back in the 80's After the project is on the road I will redo will a full factory AMD quarterpanel as the bondo is thick.

8 3/4 rear was freshened up with the big yoke 391 posi and restored by NAMC in Portland Ore along with the 4-speed steering column.

4-speed was rebuilt by at AC-Nutter's shop in Vancouver,WA.

I was starting to get overwhelmed with the project but have gotten my second wind and am driving on. Just installed the rebuilt Midland ross booster and mastercylinder purchased from wayne brown in Texas. for the disc drum conversion.  I will post pics as soon as the better half gets her new camera as my old ones are way too big and I need to edumacate on resizing later.

Welcome to the board!  Glad you found us.

Let me know if you need any help or advice.  I'm in Vancouver, WA and have a 3,000 SF fabrication shop in my back yard.  Full commercial paint booth too if you want to paint your own car.  Only a hobby for me, but I really enjoy it.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Welcome to CC.com.

Can't wait to see pics of your Gran Coupe.
Will you be doing all the metal and bodywork yourself?

I replaced my quarter with a Goodmark when they were the only quarters available at the time. It was alot more work to get it right than I predicted when I first bought it. The Goodmark needed corrections to fit onto the body in certain areas.

I would be interested in seeing how it compares additional work (if any) to get it fitted right.

My left rear needed replacing when it was hit by a 4 wheeler half way into my lane at a hairpin turn.
Mike, Fremont, CA.

I live in Vancouver, Wa same as CODY there, (  I have a old jedi master 30 yrs in the trade before he retired )for a Father in law who says he will school me right on the panel and extension, ( talk me through the job ) if he's still alive when I do it. If not I may drop it off at a Pro shop like NAMC in Portland,  they do great work and the mechanics are pretty excellent guys. My first goal is to get the 440 and 4 speed in first get it on the road so I can enjoy it again then work on the body. Is lime green on the inside but Rally red ( over the origional DB orange ). It is the origional quarter and if I was a Jedi master from Detroit It prolly could be worked out. I have heard AMD has the best panels.
I was Lucky to find a rust free Mopar.

Very cool!  You're so close to me.  Stop by and say hi.....

Here's one of the two projects I'm working on right now....

In Primer right now.....  I should be done with paint in about 3 to 4 weeks.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I have been to the dry side many times when in the Guard at Yakima base, in the summer I would always see the hot-rods driving around esspecially during the Hot-august nights in tri-cities.
