Grand Coupe question
« on: September 23, 2010 - 11:37:52 PM »
I'm a bit of  a newbie when it comes to Cuda/Barracuda history.

From what I understand, Grand coupe's were available in 70 & 71.
Anyone have the "White Book" info on the production #s?  :clueless:
In particular, I'm going to be looking at a '71 318 car tomorrow with a friend.
Just want to know the skinny.

 :2thumbs:
Thanks,

Dan

No 'D', just Gran.  ;)

1971 w/ 318 for US sales, approximately 1073 total.

Approximately 53 with 3 speeds & 1020 automatics.

Thanks Barry,
Very helpful as usual.
The car we looked at today was a basket case 71 GC.
No fender tag. (long gone) VIN BP23G1B175217
We Couldn't find the cowl stamp vin  :clueless: :dunno:, and could not get to the rad support to check. :pullinghair:
This thing was beat. dunno what color it was originally. Coulda been B5 Blue, but not sure.
I'll post some pics.
Dan

The P in the BP is for Premium priced. and they had the same crome trim squares in the grill as the AAR but you could only get a 383 B No 440 and No E'MI. The sophisticated cuda

Here it is, in all it's glory.

The owner wants 6K for the car. I am sure if anyone dropped him a reasonable offer, it would go. The interior is complete, and in really good shape. The doorpanels look brand new.It has the original seats, IP as well as all interior parts.
Engine is long gone.
Figure on replacing nearly EVERYTHING on that car. There are layers to previous "restos".  :smilielol: :smilielol:
If it were me, I would Media blast if first, to see what is hiding under those suspicious layers of paint.

Its a shame this car did not have a fendertag, or cowl #s where we could verify the VIN. It is a 71...

Lol steve!
No joke, especially if it is just the shell. It is a complete car. I just snapped shots of the shell. The interior is mint. (strange northern car curse)
I heard this guy got into the car, and once he started to dismantle it, found it was beyond his patience, especially when he might be short on the coin to fix it up.
Rumor has it that he took it in trade to build another guys challenger, and lost some revenue on the deal.
The only parts actually missing on the car are the grille and the engine.
Thoughts?

Sorry if I was a bit harsh....LOL. I love Gran Coupes myself and would probably be crazy enough to bring a car like this back to life, even being "just a 318 car". The thing is, there are a ton of project cars out there right now and probably half of them are fairly priced (unlike this one...hahaha).

My blue Chally, while just a 318 car and just a 73, was much less than this car and about 95% rust-free. I've even seen a couple T/A's around the $10K mark.

Even as a complete car, I would not give more than $2500 for this GC, and that's if the interior is really nice.  :2cents:

Dan,

thanks for the pics! I, too,  :iagree:  Mine wasn't in as bad a shape, plus it already came running with a 440, and i paid a lot less.  but..... it is a GC!  who knows... with some beer goggles on   :drunk: it might look like a pretty good deal!!    :roflsmiley:
