What is it?
« on: September 26, 2010 - 09:35:43 PM »
I found a 1" X 3" metal tag inside the frame rail. It was in the right frame rail all the way up front. It says Chrysler Corp. and has a serial # and under that a part #. It has 1/4" bolt holes for mounting on each end. Any idea what this would have been on? Thanks!

No, but I'll get one. I was wondering if there would have been one like this on the inner fender?

Not from the sound of it.

The made in USA tags for export cars would be a similar size, but not with a serial number & part number.  :dunno:

Not in my 1970-91 parts book, but I will guess that it came from an AC compressor.  :clueless:

This isn't an A/C car, but that doesn't have to mean anything. It could of come from anywhere I guess. I was just hoping I found an original tag hidden away.

Well, you did.

Now to figure out what it is from. I checked a photo I had of a 1969 AC compressor & it is a different shape. A distributor tag would be curved if it has attaching points on each end like that.  :clueless:

I can do some asking around if you like?

That would be great! I appreciate the help. You know how it is when you find something lost for years. I'll check back tomorrow.

I have also sent this to a few people I know to see what it is.  It may be an old part number that has been used again.  Chrysler does this when the retire and no longer make certain parts. It may be difficult to identify.

I sent it out to several people I know.  The most logical answer I was given was that it is an equipment tag.  Chrysler made welders, generators, and numerous other peices of equipment.  Maybe the welder broke when they were doing your car and they threw the tag in the rail.  Over the years I have found all kinds of things in car frame rails.  The wildest one I know of happened to a buddy around 1979.  He found a human finger in a rail.  The car had been badly wrecked and was being used for parts.

I have a few more reliable confirmations that this is a non-automotive equipment tag.  It is from 1969.  As to what peice of equipment, I don't know.  If I find out I will let you know.

There must be some way to find that #, it being a Chrysler #. Great effort, I appreciate it. Like holding a juicy bone in front of my dog. It was bolted on a flat surface, its to thick to bend easily. Thanks again
