1970 'Cuda tail light housings.
« on: September 27, 2010 - 02:46:58 AM »
I did a search, but couldn't find the answer although  I'm sure it's been asked and answered before.  What color were the tail light housings (inside the trunk) for a 1970 Cuda?
Thanks in advance
Brad

I believe they were zinc dichromate plated.  There are a few places that can replate them for you.  Scott Smith is one of them I believe.  I know someone has posted pics on Moparts recently.  I can try to find them.

Also, if you aren't trying to go 100% origonal and just want something close, some have used Eastwoods carb renew paint with good results.

Look twards the bottom of this link for a couple pics of the carb painted housings.

Edit:

Here is the link you need to look at.  I was wrong.  The housings are dipped in a chromic acid solution.  This link shows the factory finish and a couple DIY options.

Once in etching primer.
The insides were painted with simple Krylon chrome paint. It's not 100% OE, but it has a shine and reflective quality I was looking for.

On a suggestion from a customer of mine. Outsides were done in Eastwoods carb renew paint. The paint goes on kind of thin, so your results will vary based on how many coats you decide to go with till your happy. I think these have 3 coats total.
Taken outside WITH a flash.

These next ones were all taken outside in natural light with NO flash on a mildly cloudy day.
