4-Speed wiring through Firewall for Reverse Light. 70 Challenger
« on: October 04, 2010 - 11:55:13 PM »
Hi guys .... I am doing a conversion from Automatic to 4-Speed.  I need to know where to drill out the hole for the reverse light in the firewall to the dash.

I am also interested to know where the shaker cable should come through also.   Any pics or measurements would be much appreciated.

Thanks .... CHAPS

Shaker cable hole for 70-71. 71 Hemi shared 2 cables from the same grommet.

Hey Topcat ..... thanks for the pics ..... that is a huge help.   Only question is ...... what is the other cable that comes through with the shaker cable?

I have A/C in my car, do you happen to know where the temperature adjustment cable comes through the firewall?  It is not on the orange labelled picture.   I suppose I could use one of the other unused item hoes, but thought I should check with others that may have already gone down this path.

Thanks again ..... Gary

In 71' only the Hemi had the 2 cables coming out of the same grommet. One cable operated the bellcrank and the other one operated the manual choke. Manual choke was a 1 year only feature just on the Hemi's.

The temp cable comes out on the D/S of the firewall. A clip holds it to the cowl.

Thanks again Topcat.    I have my cable running along the  under side of the cowl.   I was not aware that there was a clip needed in the area?   Is it a common one .... or something unique?   Perhaps a picture?   The temperature cable is not listed in the orange firewall pic.   Is there a specific grommet I should take it through?

I am aware that since I have A/C and a shaker, that things will not be to original specs.   For example, the cable for the shaker will not run out of the factory set up as they didn't have A/C and shaker setups (factory).   So, I have no choice but to re-route the shaker cable somewhere close.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Original Heater control valves had 2 clips. One was roundish shaped and the other that holds it on top, the cable fitted into it. I don't know if they're being re made or not. Try R/T Specialties? If not, later year Mopars up to 78 will have them if the car had A/C. i.e: for sure 76 Cordoba had em.

Shaker cable hole you can put somewhere else. But keep original or near the same place it originally was like is what I would do.

Unless you have the 1 in. grommet in your hand do not drill out a 1 in. hole. It seems they repop the smaller one for the 1/2 in hole and not the larger one. I have been searching everywhere and cannot find one. Even at the bone yards and I have a thread here in parts wanted.

Thanks ... I will keep that in mind.   I need to go through my bag of body plugs.   I believe that they included a shaker grommet with the kit??
