70 chally tailight gaskets
« on: October 05, 2010 - 10:21:53 AM »
After getting my car back from the paint/body shop when they installed the taillight housings and bezels you can see the gaskets around them (between the bezels and tailpanel metal).  Has anyone else had this issue?  I am going to take them off to fix this.  Is it a matter of trimming them or are they put on wrong?  They do go on the outside between the metal and the bezels correct?  Thanks, Danny

Are those original gaskets? You shouldn't be able to see them. You do have them installed correctly as they keep the exhaust fumes from entering the trunk. As me how I know.    :sadwavey:

No this was a paint gasket kit I ordered and had installed, but you can see them protruding in places around the bezels.  Thanks, Danny

New gaskets are going to be harder to compress at first.  I'm running into that myself.  The gaskets on my rear side markers just bairly show if you are looking for it.  The nuts are tightened as much as I'm comfortable tightening them.  The tail light housing gaskets are the same way.  It takes a lot of force to push the housings in where they should be.

I don't know how the 70 tail light is formed on the back side but you may be able to trim a little of the gasket away for a tighter fit.  At the very least, I'd take it appart and verify that is was installed correctly.
