what's this 71 barracuda project worth?
« on: October 07, 2010 - 09:10:49 PM »
Just tossing around the idea of  offering to trade my Buick .  http://s651.photobucket.com/albums/uu240/B_Richmond/Buick/

for this 71 Project? What do you all think? Does anyone know if he is a member on here?
http://www.forebodiesonly.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2026

Hard one to decide? My Buick is a running driving pitbull! I just had it appraised at $14000 I have more than that into it. I've owned it for 12 years and put way to much into it. I know it's not worth what I have into it. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING! that wears out has been replaced with less than 500 miles on it. I don't piss around when I build a car, I like them nice!  Mopar's are much better investments than my Buick.... I drove my Buick maybe 5 times this summer, didn't even use a whole tank of fuel all summer....Yep I got the Mopar bug BAD! :grinyes:
On the other hand a 71 Barracuda will be worth more. I'm pretty much "finished" with the Challenger and wouldn't mind something to work on?( I get bored easy?)
With me it's a tie between a 71 Cuda/Barracuda and a 70 Roadrunner in which one I like best.
I think I will be somewhat on the losing end trading but.....? What do you all think?
Not to say the owner will even want to trade either I know ,but just tossing the "idea" around in my head...?

Will you be doing most/all of your own retoration work on the car? If so then do it, otherwise don't because if you farm a bunch of the work out (especially paint/body work) you will end up spending way more than the car is worth performing the restoration.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But isn't $10k a little high considering the economy and the shape that cars in?

I got mine (granted a 72 not a 71) for $2k. Have a total of $8441 into it, and it's a lot nicer than that one...
Cuda is gone :(

Tough decision. I'd suggest you look at before you decide. He doesn't say anything about all the missing little stuff like trim, handles, mirrors. Check out the "restorable" grille and light lenses. Even if you do all the work I think you'll put close to 20k additionally into building it. But in the end it'd worth a lot more than that! Don't forget the Buick is drivable. The Cuda would be an awesome project! Good luck.

71's are worth a lot more than 72's and are way more desireable. Also this 71 comes with a ton of new parts that help offset the value. I say its a decent price even in this economy. A couple of years ago that car would have brought well over $20k.

Lots of good points of view guys thanks! With me if I'm going to have a Cuda/Barracuda....it's gotta be a 71 or nothing.  That's just me though.  :2cents:

After seeing Aaron's chops all I can see is a black 71 with a satin black AAR hood, 4 or 5 speed  etc.... :thinkerg: :grinyes: With black AAR stripes ending with the AAR symbol that says Cuda instead of AAR. Like all /most of us my dreams often are bigger than our wallets! :crying:
There is another member on here that has that combo I think. I always drooled over it!
It would all depend on what parts he does have and the condition of them...? I put a lot of blood sweat and tears into that Buick....but it's not a Mopar....I'm trying to think of things logically instead of emotionally.... Tough battle! LOL

Why not just sell the Buick for 15+ and buy the barracuda and even if the barracudas sold they'll be more.
Your in Canada, so I don't think it would be hard at all to get over 15.
WANTED 71 cuda / barracuda project. Prefer Black but open.
