70 challenger SE deluxe moulding
« on: October 10, 2010 - 05:14:28 PM »
Hello everyone, first off I dont know if Im in the correct place with this or not..

I have a 70 challenger SE deluxe trim molding that goes around the front fenders, and across the hood that is pot metal and chromed and about 2 inches wide..
I was wondering what something like this might go for, the passenger has a slight rip in it and would be an easy fix, but all three peices would need re chrome to be perfect.. Dont get me wrong, these could easily go on a car right now and be used..
I also have the totaly rust free hood (flat style) that the trim came off..

What is something like this worth in current state, compaired to fixed up state..
I was thinking $1,800.00 Because of the rarity of this, and has the rust free hood the trim was attached to as well..

Anyone?? :feedback:

Sounds like 71 parts, not 70.

I'm thinking if they're NOS, $1800 might be realistic, but you'd have to sit on 'em for a while to find the right buyer.  :2cents:
My name is Steve and I'm addicted to Challengers...

These are 71 parts. The wide trim on the front of the fenders is being re-popped, so it can be had. The only difficult part to find is the wide trim on the front of the hood.

Sorry I can't offer you an idea of their worth.

Thank you for the input and the link to the site, but just like you stated, a RE-POP..Cheaper quality, just like the new Quarter panels that are being made..Sure they look good, but people are willing to "cut cost corners" for the weaker metal..
This comes with NOT only the center piece, but with the RUST FREE HOOD as well that the center came with (no guess work in drilling holes)..
A WELL known MOPAR ONLY restorer, and a HUGE MOPAR ONLY dealer both stated that the $1,800.00 I wanted was fair even though the one piece needed work..

I know what your saying "if it was fair why diddnt they offer you what you were asking".. I did not offer them the pieces thats why, just some lame attempt to "low ball" a person..

Thank you

What you have might well be worth $1800. I won't dispute that.

It is hard for us to answer these questions without seeing what you do have. Can you post pictures of what you have?

The piece is for 71 Challengers only.  It fits all years of Challengers if someone wants to use it on their car.  Chrysler called it the front peripheral molding. I would say with the hood it is worth about half of $1800.00 in this market. If the center piece gets reproduced the price will get even lower.  I have not seen the reproduction.  I know the original was pot metal and it cost about $1800 to have it redone correctly.  Who is your well known Mopar only restorer source?  Post some pics.

You got me curious because you mentioned a restorer as a reference and then did not give his name.  I was just giving you my opinion on the price.  When they sell we will all know what they are worth.  Good luck with the sale.

I've been looking for driver side top door edge molding for '70 SE Challenger for some time, clicked on the link to PG Classic from this thread and saw they have top door edge molding for 70-74 Cuda

http://moparplus.com/product_info.php?products_id=1167

is this molding the same as they used on the 70 SE?

I want to say "no".

I'm basing this off of years back I had a set of the Challenger rear quarter window molding for sale on E-Bay. Someone with a Cuda was interested and asked me to send him the dimensions. He said the Challenger molding was wider than what he needed for his Cuda.
