70 California Hemi Cuda Project - BS23R0B
« on: October 17, 2010 - 09:19:31 PM »
So I have a 70 Hemi Cuda that is an original California car. (Last on the road in 1987) Yes this is a real R0B car, I have the dash plate, cowl stamp and radiator support stamp all matching....

Car has (As Delivered) Ralley Dash, Overhead Consol, Floor Auto Shift, B3 Blue, Power Steering, Power Brakes, 6 Way Drivers Seat to name a few options.

A little history... So some time after it was puchased (mid 70's) the car was being used as a weekend drag car in the Bay area, the story goes that the guy racing the car had the need for speed. Wanting to get more speed from the Hemi, he took the car into a local speed shop where they shop convinced the owner that the cost of getting more power from the Hemi would be a lot more than swapping out the motor for a stroked 440 motor that they had... so that is exactly what he did!

So unfort the original motor and trans are long gone.... there is a Dana 60 out back still though.
I have an original 69 data coded block for the car that is currently at the machine shop and have new Keith Black pistons. Engine has with it an original Crank, Rods and Cam. I have heads for it also, although they need some repairs. (I also have carb intake, oil pump, power steering pump with external cooler, correct hemi radiator and many other parts.)

Basically when I got the car, the engine and trans and associated parts were missing along with the front seats (I have subsequently got hold of a pair of 70 only front seats).

Why am I considering selling.... Well the car is an excellent project, minimal rust in the car (I have already put back the auto floor section that had been cutt up to allow use of a manual 4 speed at some point.) But this is an original 70 Hemi car, so finding the original parts that are correct and doing everything perfectly so the car is put back the way it shoudl be takes time and money. Where as I would love to have a fun car for the weekend to enjoy right now.

Don't get me wrong, I am in no rush or need to sell this car, so if people aren't interested at the price I am looking for then I will just continue with the restoration and end up with a very nice, and very rare 70 Hemi Cuda.

So the price, well I reckon the car should be worth $90k as it stands..... (Please no haters on the price, bottom line, how often do you see a 70 Hemi Cuda, californian car and in B3 blue that had the overhead consol from the Grand Coupe from the factory, I believe this makes it super rare....)

I have boxes and boxes of parts, seats, interor parts, dash parts, dash bad (still in good confition), space saver tire and wheel, jack etc etc etc........

What is not there, need 70 hemi trans, the carbs and some of the engine parts, 6 way seat track, and lots of small parts.

I will consider partial trades on 68 - 71 mopars.

So here are a few pics....

Looks like a good project, but I disagree with your price.  I'm not be a hater.  There's still a LOT of money needed to restore that car and when you consider it's a Hemi your not going to want to cut any corners as it will come back to bite you when try to sell it finished.  Anyone buying a Hemi project or finished car is going to do their homework or hire someone who knows to look at it.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

That's why I said the price is what I am comfortable selling it for as I feel this represents a fair value. I agree there is a fair amount of money to be spent on the project, if there was nothing left to spend, then I would be asking more or I would not be selling as it would simply be a case of time to complete. Indeed, anyone that is seriously interested will do there homework, I wouldn't expect it any other way...

Goodluck with the 90k  :smilielol: :poopoke:

A rusted out rolling shell with no motor or any other parts brought 30K on ebay a few weeks ago. This car needs a LOT less work and has a LOT more parts. If i couldnt get 90...or atleast somewhere close to that i would probably just go ahead and fix it up myself

Good luck on the $90K.  We can lead them to water, but we can't make them drink?!?  :roflsmiley:My U-code 70 Challenger 440 R/T AC convertible project was offered at $50K a month or so ago.  I got one response that just could not afford another project right now, although he said it has all the right stuff.  Therefore, it sets in the back of my shop until someone that knows what it is can afford it.

I chased after this car over 3 years ago hoping it was the car to my engine...but it wasn't. And from what I found out (from what I was told) it only had just a dash vin tag, no fender tags or build sheet. Sitting in a body shop for a long time.

I spoke to George many times on the phone. George was the owner prior to him selling to Stephen. It was raced at Baylands, Fremont many times.

This car had some racing history behind it.  Had a VW Rabbit drivers seat in it when it was racing. I even found out the names of the prior owners prior to George. Tried to track them down but came up dry. Now I don't remember since its been so long ago. Might still have the phone conversation notes buried here somewhere.

So, no fender tag?   What about a build sheet?

Scott at Harms and I spoke more than once about the car together when I was first researching about it as a match to my engine. I first found out accidentally that Scott knew George from way back. Scott filled me in on it along with George when I spoke to him also.
